Way to go with the detail there to help us out.

How many miles?
Is it mapped?
What have you had done to resolve it?
What fuel?
How long has this been happening and what has changed, if anything?
Recent service/service history?

Any engine management lights on?
Any work carried out recently or around the time the issue started happening?

Tbh sounds like knock sensor to me

I had a similar issue with my car when it was warm.

When my car was being mapped the mapper noticed it and said it was down to the oil I was using. I was using 5W30 and when warm the oil wasn't the correct viscosity. This meant the VTC unit was reacting slower than expected and wasn't giving the correct cam angle at vtec engagement.

Hope that makes sense but I used to notice it when driving also.

As others have said, any more details?

What you might be experiencing (if the car is mapped) is the Vtec cross over at part throttle on 5k and ultimately is a characteristic of you map.

Until you expand, that is a complete guess lol

Hi sorry guys
The car has just had a new K20a engine fitted done 33,000 miles
My old engine would do it too but not as bad as this
No engine lights is on it's literally when you put the accelerator down to the floor the car begins to go then just sits back struggling
If you drive normally the car is perfect
I was thinking it could of purchasing a new fuel pressure valve and fuel filter
Whilst I remember my Teg has always gone into a limp mode when the car has a quarter of a tank or below but was told that would be a safety thing so you can get her to a petrol station
Does anyone else or anyone had this problem
Not sure what oil is in it as only picked up today ready for MOT tomorrow

Thanks people and I appreciate your help on this

When was the last oil change, oil level; worth getting that changed along with a service of spark plugs?

Are you running high octane fuel or cheap supermarket

Limp mode with 1/4 tank sounds really, really wrong, so it could be fuel system related. Is the car modified at all?

Sounds like the fuel pumps getting weak.

Pretty common on old cars now. Focus RS's suffer with it but have devastating effect of running lean.

Check pump and pressure regulator.

The fact that the old engine done the same is odd. I would start my troubleshooting with the fuel pressure at least.

You can get a replacement fuel filter from Cox for not that much (i done mine last year) and is an easy job. While the parts are all out it would be worth replacing the pressure reg in there just for peace of mind.

Not 100% sure on the Fuel reg PN, a call to Cox would answer that.

Let us know how you get on.

Car is standard
Thanks think I'm just going to have to keep buying new parts to do with the fuel
Just had it MOT d and the mechanic said it could be the leads from the dizzy to the plugs ???
Thanks for all the advice

They don't have HT leads, just individual coil packs. Could be a number of things, id he taking it to a specialist if fuel system component replacement doesn't do it. They will have the issues sorted in no time atall.

Don't go down the replacing parts route, it will be expensive and unsuccessful. Trust me. :xyes:

you will spend just as much taking it to a specialist to diagnose it and you will more than likely have an answer.

As said, no HT or dizzy for the K20a. It runs 4 coil packs, of which are designed pretty well and rarely go wrong. You can test them using a multi meter if you have doubts.

I've said this in the past and I will say it again, just take it for a good long run and get it into VTEC as much as possible - without driving like a twat of course.

Trust me, it will do it good.

Ok update here so I decided to fill the tank with fuel and the car performs amazing hits every note
So thinking of replacing the fuel pressure valve and the fuel filter
What do you think ???

Could be fuel delivery related. I Would replace the fuel filters. The big one (top filter) and the second filter on the fuel pump itself (the one almost everybody forgets to replace).
When you have KPro you can check your fuel tank pressure when full and under a quarter. Maybe there is something to find out in the pressure of the fuel system when running low on fuel.

mine has started to do this sometimes too. along with hunting when cold.
Ive recently had the 02 sensor changed as it failed the MOT on emissions. my local MOT garage changed it ,Do you think it could be a cheap sensor thats my issue as it didnt do it before?
ill fill it up tomorrow and see if it does it with a full tank. its Intermittent so its hard to tell.
