Warning, geeks only need apply

I'm running the following at the moment:

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD 64 3700+ cooled by Arctic Cooler 64 Pro
2 x XFX 7900 GTX 512 MB cooled by Zalman
Corsair Twin XMS (2X1Gb) PC3200 DDR400
2 X 160 GB SATA HDD in RAID-0
Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty
Philips 190X6 19" LCD monitor (max 1280x1024)
Saitek Gaming Keyboard
Logitech MX-518 mouse
Logitech Force Feedback Pro Joystick

Going Conroe at the beginning of next. Going to be an expensive upgrade as I have to change my RAM, Mobo and of course the CPU. I also want a new case as mine is plastic and it doesn't really have great aiflow.

A nice aluminium one would be cool with a few intake and exhaust fans.

And I want a monitor that will support higher resolutions

You DONT need to change the ram actually, do what i did and buy...

from...

Its dead cheap and works fine (i know im using one), it lets you use your old DDR ram or use DDR2, alos a PCI-E graphics or an AGP.

However problem for it for you is no SLi, so youd have to go back to a single GTX :-(

My CPU currently bests yours, as does my case (Antec P180B yum) but you are destroying me on everything else lol, oh to have a bit more money!

If I upgrade I'll get an SLI ready board and the DDR2 RAM. I won't be buying a DX10 card when I go Conroe as I think my SLi setup will do for the next 12 months before they will start struggeling.

I'm still keeping my eye out though for a X2 AMD, preferably 4400+ for a cheap price and if I see one I'll snap it up.

Not sure what case to get, though I do like some of the Coolermaster ones.

That is unless AMD bring out something that beats the Conroe which I don't think they will TBH for a long while.

i've got the silver wavemaster, really nice looking case. seems to be a very good quality case as well.

i've also got the same mobo and CPU as you with 2x1GB

did you notice much differance going SLI as at the moment i've got a 7800GT and am not sure if its worth getting another. seems to play all my games pretty well.

Yeah there's an improvement, a lot smoother framerates. You won't notice it on some of todays games, but Oblivion is where it made the most difference.

Best upgrade I did was getting the Corsair RAM.

Nice Andy, how did you rig up the water-cooling?? Fancy do it on the next upgrade when the conroe and SLI's are in place. Was quite tempted with the artic cooler made to sit below the Lian-li case.

I haven't bought computer equipment in years now.

Just buy whatever I need at work, just got myself a new Sony BX2 Laptop, also got a pretty looking Apple iBook to take home.
