cheers mate, ive been to my local town shops and they says cannot cut it, think you need a place witha laser cutting machine or somthing.

Honda will do it for roughly £25 :? going to pop over weekend.

ha ha this is the first problem i had when i got mine....

The solution is to get another key (a Honda Jazz was mine) and just go to a PROPER locksmith and they will cut it exact...

I think Steels Honda have found a cheaper blank now that works rather thna the Jazz key.. so give Dave a call..

key blank

you wont be able to purchase a genuine dc5 key blank through honda, what we successfully done is used a crv/jazz key blank(approx £30) or even an 02yr civic blank(£20).the only thing to watch for is that the depth of the cut is correct

Hi Adz, I'm struggling to get another key for mine. Please let me know how you get on. My biggest problem is getting someone to copy my key. Most just flatly say it cant be done :(

I only got one key also. Whatever chance you have of getting them cut in the UK there is little or no chance of getting a spare in Ireland. I've been trying to get a blank off honda for 3 months and still only one key

I have successfully identified a laser blank which I am 99% sure will do the job.. I will not know for sure till I have done a couple of experiments and cut one for my car.. when I have it sussed I'll let you know..
the blanks I am using are OEM and therefore are not badged up as honda :( however they will work out cheaper :D
I should be able to source honda blanks (late civic) if you wish, but there is obviously a cost issue there..

As for getting keys in Ireland, I would be prepared, If you can send me a very clear digi photo of the blade of the key.. to decode it visualy, this way I maybe able to send you one by post..?

Hope this is of some help,

Adz

Thanks for that david. So I should'nt have a problem sourcing some geniune Honda blanks through main dealers if people want them doing on a genuine blank..

DC5 keys

Right.. I now have some OEM blanks on order, and they should be with me early in the new year. These blanks are very high quality. We DO NOT use bad, quality cheap blanks. I will do a test key for my car when they arrive, however I am still 99% sure there will be no problems with this.
All our keys are cut to code.. we do not do a straight copy as all this does is reproduce the wear on the key. The key we supply will be cut as if new from the factory. This also means that, as in Carolines case, I should be able do offer keys by post, as long as I am given a very clear, close up image of the key.

Now I have all the info, I can give you an idea of cost..

I reckon I can do you a new key (OEM) for about £20 + vat

If you want them done on a genuine blank then let me know and I will sort you out a price when Ive got one from honda, obviously as these keys are from the manufacturer and are transponder blanks (not nessisary), they will be more expensive.

I can send keys out recorded delivery which I think only costs about a £1 to the UK mainland.. If anyone wants them further a field (Caroline) then I will have to check and get you a price.

If I am going to decode a key from an image, there will have to be an additional charge due to the amount of work involved.

Have I missed anything? pls let me know

Hope this will help a few of you out of this precarious, one key situation..

Merry Christmas,

Adz :xbeer:

Visited Adz yesterday and got a 2nd key cut. :D

Can't recommend him highly enough :) The blanks are better quality metal than Honda's own and the new key worked first time :D

I would however have concerns about sending keys by post hence my visit :) I would consider looking into Recorded delivery / Registered post / Courier if I had not been in a position to go in person.

Did you manage to successfully do a "photo the key and cut one from the photo" job? I'd like one done if I can photo my key and send you that?
Cheers

Hav'nt had to do one from a picture yet, but it is possible. The best I can say is send me the pictures so I can have a look at the key. Each key is quite different and some are easier to read than others (depending on what cuts have been used and in what order) I can then give you an honest opinion on how confident I am about doing that particular key by photo. We can go from there. PM If anyone wants my E-mail addy.

In the defence of sending a key by recorded delivery IF necessary, the risk you are taking can only be as much as taking the only key out of the house everyday with the risk of loosing it..? But obviously if we can avoid either senario then its betta for everyone! :)
