I'd be interested in a proper solution to this. I've bought 4 brand new centre caps from Honda, now just need to get a perfect match when I get my wheels refurbished.

Paint is the only solution for a perfect match, some people swear by this but it's each to their own.

Personally I prefer powder coat and lucky to have companies local to me with over 30yrs experience in some cases, so the usual fears associated with powder coaters and damaging wheels by exposing them to excess heat etc. doesn't really apply.

As said above, paint would be best match, but how often do you hear about miss coloured NH0 body panels so possibly one persons car may be quite near a RAL colour of 9010 or 9016 so might be a perfect match.

In your case kneedowndean I would take your centre caps and compare them with the powder if going the powdercoat route as I will be doing with my badge holder or mirror cap once painted.

As for the miths of damage being caused to wheels, well if it was not safe then why is there a heck of a lot of companies doing it and have been for a years now, yes granted before you all start having a go, there will be reputable companies and also Cowboys so it is wise to do your homework. Believe me i'v been there and done it, got wheels off of my then 306GTi years ago done by a new local firm in Dundee TWICE!!, both times were great when picked up but next day shrinkage cracks appeared all over the spokes :( , lesson learned.

Also the price I was quoted at £210 tyres off and on sounds quite cheap as opposed to what I think my bodyshop would be as the prep work would be very time consuming and time is money and it's not a 2 hour job. Unless that is you can get a homer done on the side :).

A lot to be said for sticking with a reputable and established wheel specialist and not a newcomer to the game (generally industrial coating specialists branching out), the one I chose have been in business since 1981 and are even rated long term on the pistonheads forum which says a lot, those guys will slate anyone with an incling of any wrongdoing....

They did offer to spray some sample plates up prior to giving them the job however I trusted the colour chips, maybe having the sample plates would have swayed me to 9010, who knows!
