Nippon Test Day - Silverstone

So last Friday saw the opening Test day of the season held at Silverstone and part organised by the Red Dragon race and Track club (Nippon for the rest of you).

The little Civic had been away with Richy and Simon (Performance-Autoworks) for the past month or so for a gearbox rebuild and new Kaaz diff fitted, as the Quaife was proving a little weak in damp/wet race conditions. As per usual, while it was there we ended up changing a few more things so on went a set of Jenvey ITB's to create some more torque/power, a new steel short shifter and a host of other bits and bobs.

The Civic hit the dyno on Tuesday and I went up Thursday night to take it out before he would tell me the results. I have always been impressed with any improvements that have been made throughout the last season, but nothing really prepared me for this. After a small blast up the road, I turned around and did a standing start to get a feel for the acceleration........holy crap  I didnt expect the power delivery and found myself hanging on to the wheel like a frightened girl  I managed to just squeez it into 4th before I buffled and backed off the power..........the noise is just insane and added with the noises from the plate diff just makes you grin like a kid. Hard really to explain but its just amazing and hopefully Richy has some pit wall drive-by action to show you what i mean

So on to Silverstone and it was a stress and trouble free day with with the Civic performing spot on, and the 4 sessions spent trying different suspension settings and destroying what was left of lest seasons R888's

When I raced at Silverstone last April my quickest time was 1:12.044, this time we roughly managed a high 1:07 so a 4 second a lap improvement which in my books is damn good, especially as my driving isnt exactly text book

So, once again Richy has worked wonders on the car and has yet again turned the Civic into a full out and out race car that he should be damn proud of.........I know I am  Top work mate!!!!!!

Ooooh the power.........Again these figures are for reference only as we use the same dyno so take them or leave them, but it managed
260.4bhp and 162ft/lbs of torque which means we now have to decide which class to run in, but all will be decided soon enough.

Thanks for reading

Everyone in a Honda last year had a white car with carbon bonnet so it had to be bright this year :D

Heres a few pics taken half way through the installation but will get some proper finished ones sorted soon

Paul's just jealous as he';s stuck in GT217 - not quite light enough or powerful enough to really be GT250 but having a go anyway

Paul maybe you should put some GT217 stickers on the car - too tight to tune the engine, but will open the wallet for stickers? :p

Glad the Civic is going well Kris. Looking like a good mix this season.

Cheers Brian,

At least Paul isnt as stupid as the rest of us and spending money we dont have  and IIRC, there was very little between us at Snett in qualifying. I have no doubt there has been some weight saving going on and the suspension and aero was working very well before so GT250 is going to be a very close battle bewteen us all I reckon.

Should be a good season for all \:D/

I have lost a bit of weight since we last met (less than 75kg's now :D ).

And there is a 'new' aero package for this year  But will still be the 217 bhp & still at least 100kg's + hev than your Tango'ed civic

So any close battle's will be down to driver skill ;) :) & car set up.....Mostly car set up!!!

Looking forward to it Kris - not long now :D

So, you just need to get your weight to -25kg Paul and you'll be there  You've got power steering so being below size zero shouldn't be an issue :p

Now that's one thing i had'nt thought of ! - save's money on food as well  :)

Kris - There must be a way to calculate my lack of power to weight per lap,eg i should be 2 sec's per lap slower with the same amount of driver
skill in each car. So if i can keep up

You can see i'm thinking up excuse's already

Well last year I spent most of the time going backwards through turn 1 in most races so I wouldnt worry too much

I dont actually think many people have even weighed their cars yet or put them on the rollers so there will be some shock come weighing in time at Snett I reckon :D

All I do know is it will be another cracking season with some good racing between us Honda boys so happy days :xcheers:
