Planning to go to the ring next year...just some questions for those of you who have been.

1. is it possible to get insurance cover for the ring, if so, with who?
2. What the script should the worst happen, i know the costs of a recovery truck and replacing armco are astronomical, does insurance cover this?
3. i plan to go for 3 full days in the village and get as many laps as i can, how many will i get, realistically? Read about people going over and only doing 4/5 laps...is that because you cant get on for more because of queues/traffic? dont want to shell out cash for a pass if im not going to use it all.
4. are there noise restrictions?

Cheers

Doubt you will get cover, if you do it will be an astronimical amount. There is a new rule now, if you cause a crash eg, from your oil spill etc you are liable, sure somebody will have the finer details.

We went last Easter, they attempted to charge one of our group for the red paint on his bumper, thinking he had hit the armco, the overflow car park is a joke - a mud field where people get to take the wet mud back onto the circuit if its raining, the main car park is tiny. On one lap we crested a blind rise only to find two marshalls in the middle of the road, zero warning, lucky we didnt know the track. On the Saturday there was ten smashes, several bad ones, if the weather is poor be prepared to spend a lot of time in the car park.

We are going back to Spa this Easter, I wont bother with the Ring again.

Check out ben lovejoys website thats got alot of useful info including the number you need to call if you have a crash. And if you have a crash make sure they only recover you to the car park and get another recovery firm to take you the rest of the way otherwise they charge you an arm and a leg!

I'd say make sure you go off peak even if its just a weekday and not a weekend, and then go early morning and just before it closes in the evening as its alot quieter then. When i went i never had to queue up once, just arrive and drive.

you should be able to get a fair few laps in if your careful, i'm planning on getting a 30 lap ticket and share it with a friend the next time im over next year some time if im staying for 2-3 days, with a lap being 12 miles and over 10 minutes the first few visits thats still quite alot of track time!

as per haitch, it has got far too popular now, so more cars and more accidents.

for insurance you could try Pace Ward, they are specialists in performance cars and do proper trackday cover included in some of their policies. they are on the mlt as the official insurers

So you just have to hope that you dont go off because insurance is so expensive? i have read about pace ward on the MLR, just thinking that its going to be a costly 3 days on the track at £250 per day! #-o

i did come across ben's link, its very useful. Good info. and i also noticed that the noise limit is 95dB, with a full Buddy Club exhaust system im thinking i may not pass, should i be unfortunate enough to get tested. that would be a bit of a disaster! has anyone ever been noise tested?

Either way, insurance or not, somebody will take your money, the Ring can be a very expensive place that many underestimate. Get yourself breakdown cover from ADAC, get yourself a bung made up at an exhaust place.

I never been stoped 4 sound. Adac gives you free recovery from ring. But as people have said, come off and it's very expensive! Great place tho I love it there.

normally the track day insurance covers you only for 8 laps not worth doing because recovery is charged either way and armco is charged by the meter also any spilages debris on track they clear up i think you are still charged for that

go there with a level head not to go and try and break records you will be fine, the locals are very fast so check your mirror a lot but dont feel bullied that you have to let them past straight away that your not enjoying the north loop , but do give way to the right and signal. i take it you are going on a public road day, which is the norm as a track days there are very expensive.
there will be plenty of info when you get there, take down the marshalls contact number which is on info board where you buy your laps, also buy laps in bulk will save you money, um just have fun people stress about it too much as long as your car is sound you wont have a problem.
(HAVE SEEN CARS REFUSED AUDI'S PORCHES WHERE THERE LEAKING FULID COOLANT SCREEN WASH WHAT EVER THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO STOP YOU,

I go 2times a year on average and never had insurance. Heard its really expensive and only covers you up to soo much.

Last year i did 14laps in my EK9 but would have been more had it not rained whole weekend.

On a dry weekend 3days you could prob get 25+ in, depending on how many times the track has to be closed. And if you feel the need to let ya car cool down after each run.

You can also get breakdown cover with ADAC that recovers you from the ring for free, there a German company but your coverd in the UK also.

If you do crash you will be charged for track closure, barrier repair, clean up etc.
