Places To Service The DC5?

Car is very nearly due for its service but unfortunately i cant take any time off in January at work. Now i have called TGM but unfortunately they are fully booked until Feb for weekends. Now this leaves me with 2 options:

1) Have it serviced locally with valve clearance checked etc

or

2) Wait until February when TGM are available even though the car wil be past its service interval (12,500) at a guess i would have probably done 500 - 1,000 miles over the interval.

Im swaying towards option 2, what do you guys think?

I would opt for (2) as well.

When did you last have an oil change? Any track time etc.?

If you've been just road-driving and changed the oil 6 months/4500 miles ago, I'm sure it'll be fine for another 500-1000. If not, you could get anyone to change the oil (or do it yourself!) and get the valve clearances done at TGM at your leisure.

Also depends which service you're at and what else needs doing - plugs? Fuel filter? Brake fluid? Air filter (if standard)? Most, if not all, of those can be done by any competent mechanic (or yourself!)

I wanted to go down to TGM but they a quite far away from me and I desperately need to get my oil changed before the weekend because I was going on a long journey.

So I thought I'd amuse myself and ask Honda - they said to me they could only do a Level 1 service on the car - and I was like ah right how much is that going to be then?? He replied £99.

That include oil, filter and fluid checks, brakes etc on the rest of the car.

Was quite suprised.

Did that include the oil itself? I always took my own when I got Honda to service the DC2, don't want their bog-standard rubbish going in my nicely maintained engine!

The oil was changed at the last service down at TGM too lol, a whole year ago. I bought the car last year and had a normal oil/gearbox change down at TGM but i thought it would be a better idea this time to do the big service! I shall be bringing my own oil and have the valve clearance done at the same time!

So TGM it is then! :D

Lol, i was suppose to pop down there this weekend  I spoke to Tom before xmas about servicing the Teg but he says that the 1st week in January is usually very quiet so no need for me to book the service. So suprise suprise when i called up today he says that the place is fully booked until Feb  :x :(

Im in exactly the same boat and to be honest im going with option 1.
Ive already done the Engine oil, gearbox oil and coolant myself and im not really bothered about a 2 hr drive + long wait for it to cool down + 2hr drive back just for the valve clearances.
I cant see any of the civic boys doing this and they have the same engine at the end of the day.
Local specialist or stealer for me

Whats all this about a, "organised" hook up at TGM.

Think I agree with this... Valve clearences shouldnt be that big a deal. Surely Local Honda will do it. If its needed for the DC5 it'll be needed for the civics and they will be more than set up to do it.

Generally local Honda don't know what they are doing - just look at the semi synthetic oil they put in at service time and that is for Civics!

Where as TGM do know what they are doing - checking the valve clerances is only half the story you can inspect the oil ways while your at it.

My DC2 had semi-synth from new, FSH from Honda - that is what they were supposed to have.... ?

Is the DC5 any different ?

It seems odd that Honda would be servicing all these civics with the wrong oil. Synthetic is not automatically better - depends on the engine requirements ! (dont know what the DC5s are mind you ! :) )
