Re: Projectdc5.com - Building a DC5 Track Car @ Showoff Impo

Finally some updates again!

ENGINE PUT IN!
Engine specs: http://www.projectdc5.com/garage/it-arr ... ion-engine

Pictures of the engine being installed:

Installing the Carbon Seats

Despite the whole car was already painted, we still had to do some welding to fabricate seat mounts. Reinier again took the welding torch and started to work! Each seat has a weight of only 4.5KG. The passenger seat is removable for the actual races.

Radiator / Oil Cooler

Our enourmous radiator was a bit larger then expected, so we had to cut the subframe in the front and reweld it a bit lower. We also installed the Setrab Oil Cooler, nicely in the middle of the front bumper‘s air vent.

Water Pump / Power Steering / Alternator

We removed all belt driven parts from the engine: The airco pump, the water pump and the hydralic power steering:
- Water pump is replaced by a Mezeire electrical pump. This is mounted on the K-Tuned Blockoff plate (where the original water pump was installed).
- Airco: Duh… removed forever :)
- Power steering: We removed this as well, replaced by a electric power steering rack from the EP3.
- Alternator: Also removed and replaced by a brand new alternator from a B16 Engine.

Wires, Wires and more Wires…

The last couple of weeks we have been working on the wiring. We first had the idea to use the original wire-loom and remove all wires we did not need. After cleaning up this loom for days and days, we decided to get rid off everything (wires, fuse boxes, relais, etc) and start all over! We just installed the engine harness and cut off all ECU wires! Thanks to electronical specialist Remco we now almost have a brand new electrical/wiring plan and schematics ready. Our mechanic Toine got us a new fuse/relais box and next week our ECU will be back in with Hondata installed, so then we can start the new wiring!

We got rid of all this:

Leaving us with this:

We also fitted in the dashboard and made some moulds for the sheets of alu/carbon that have to be fitted in to be able to install our switches and race dash. We also installed the battery, a dry-cell Odyssey PC680 model. To be continued…

Some interior parts

This weekend we started working on the brakelines. HEL Brakelines has a special ORANGE colored brakeline that we use. We also installed the hydrylic handbrake (Six performance), the short shift system (Buddyclub) and a brake force distributor.

Next week we will make the brakelines. Since Showoff Imports is a official HEL Brakelines production facility and distributor, this shouldn‘t be that difficult for us ;)

to be continued...

Looking good mate,

But one thing i would do is take the Buddy Club short shift OUT. I am talking from experiance, They are crap and WILL fall appart when you dont want it to.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers.

Wow, this is amazing, and loving the roll cage and wheels, looks amazing.

This will be quicker than a BTCC DC5 won't it? lol.

BTCC: I hope so ;)

New updates:

Injectors Installed

RC Engineering 650 CC Injectors installed

Radiator + Fans + Oil Cooler

After modifying the sub/frontframe we could finally install the radiator. In front of it you can also see the Setrab Oil Cooler.

JBT Big Brake Kit & Front Arms/Suspension Parts

We installed these parts some weeks ago, but since the wheels were mounted as well, we could not take pictures of it. But now we could! You can also see the Buddyclub P1 Roll Centers and the Ultra Racing Swaybar with Hardrace endlinks.

Engine Mounts Close-up

HEL Performance Brakelines Update

It was time to put in our brakelines. We custom made these lines ourselves (as we are official HEL production facility). All standard metal lines are in the trashcan, we replaced the full lines from brake cilinder to the actual brakes. We use our special Project DC5 Orange colored braided lines with stainless steel HEL Bolts/Banjo‘s.

Seibon Carbon Doors & Lexan Windows

We prepared our Seibon Carbon Doors: Installed the lexan windows and sliders into the doors. Also installed the mirrors, but you couldn‘t have missed that

Nice. Looking good.

I have the same mounts with black inserts(75A)

Brake lines look awesome, although personally I wouldn't have used flexible lines throughout as there is a certain element of expansion with braided lines which will be amplified with a longer hose.

Still, looks amazing. Love the cage and wheels

Love this project - such a good build thread - one question though, why keep the handbrake? Surely a line lock would do the job and save weight?

Would dispute that - the work that goes into a BTCC car is amazing.

Was just guessing, im by no means an expert, would be more powerful than a BTCC if it makes the proposed 320bhp wouldn't it? What are the specs on the BTCC DC5?

The BTCC DC5s are serious bits of kit that lap Brands in 48-49 seconds.Noe of the suspension is based on the std stuff it is all fabricated and it costs thousands of pounds for one corner of the suspension.Photos of the front and rear of the sunshine car.

For the rota haters: Those wheels perform outstanding on the track, we sell about 2500 a year, never had any problem. In my opinion people with a 'brand fetish' ONLY because the brand costs a lot are just not so familiar with 'how stuff works' in this world/economy. But to each his own... :rotfl:

Another update;

Spoiler installation;

Electronics.... the bottleneck in our latest work...
New fusebox and brand new wiring throughout the whole car!

Seibon Hood + Aerocatch hoodlocks

Oil Cooler

Water pump

Car transporter
Picked up today, a brand new car transporter to move the DC5 fromt track to track!

And these are also the first pictures outside... :)

This week we continue with some plumbing, electronics and other stuff to get it finished soon!
