Rattle :(

Been hearing a little rattle from my car recently. Removed the driveshaft heat sheild and that hasn't cured it.

Seems to be when low down in most gears. E.g. When slowing down in a gear to about 2/3k and then putting your foot down a bit.

Doesn't seem like anything is loose, which is scaring me...lol.

Please help me!

I had a similar noise, went to TGM and Tom knew what it was straight away, turned out to be the clutch springs rattling. To test this put it into 3rd/4th at low RPM and accelerate - you would hear a noise like a castor wheel spinning which would go at about 4-5,000 RPM, it also occurred at 3,500 RPM and below on off throttle.

Sadly the noise is starting to appear again little over a few thousand miles on the new OEM Honda clutch. He said it's pretty common, I wonder if an aftermarket clutch would have the same problem.

Edit - Of course it may not be this but after a lot of searching that was my issue ^

That sounds about right. Was approaching a round about in 3rd before and could be bothered to reach for 2nd so just put my foot down at low revs and could hear it loud and clear.

Sounds loud enough to hear it better with the window down too.

Sound like the same problem mate?

Thanks for the fast response, it's been doing my head in!

Yeah it was really noticeable, did my head in too! Have a look into a uprated clutch which maybe better, not sure though if its just natural but it has started again - way quieter though.

It's literally the only thing that annoys me about the car because it drives brilliantly! I was sure it was a heat sheild before I took them off, doh.

Will have a look at clutches. I'm the first owner in the U.K. so unsure of the age but if yours has started again it must be one of those things.

Petrified of a box rebuild or a goosed diff so hopefully it is the springs.

Thanks for the help :)

Sounds just like mine, I too removed the driveshaft heatshield which at first I thought cured it but nope :(

I was surprised as it was only on around 43,000 miles at the time. On the plus side the pedal went super soft and smooth :)

If you're local to TGM or another specialist it's worth double checking with them.

I will pop down to a local Honda specialist or TDI North/ABP and get them to have a look!

Also, did yours stop on declaration when you pushed the clutch in?

Cool I'm sure they will be able to confirm or figure out what it is.

Yes as far as I remember it did stop when the clutch was disengaged.

Is it coming from the front end of the car? There are more rattling heatshields to be found lol

I have just collected my car last week, and found that I have two type of noise.
One is similar to what your described "caster wheel spinning", it only happen in low gear in slow then sudden foot down more then release, that sound happen.
I reckon it is common, because when I owned a EP3 5-6 years ago, lot of noise, just cannot be quiet.

Another one is high pitch tinny noise in high speed motorway, and I guess it is driveshaft heat shield or any other shield rattle noise.
Last few days I have convinced myself this car is not quiet even if in stock exhaust and accept the fact it is a kind of performance cars, which comes with all sort of noise.

May I ask whether only Tom @ TGM is good/experienced for DC5, or all people are friendly and experienced to help? I plan to book an appointment for checking the car to find any bad thing that I need to be caution of.

Hamks, I believe you bought your car from Torque GT? They are really helpful and may be able to help towards any costs invovled under their warranty.

It depends where you live of course but if you're local to TGM I'd definitely recommend them, Tom knew straight away what it was and he was correct.

As above, I would go back to Torque GT. They'll sort you out.

I got my old s15 off them and had a couple of small issues. They sent a few bits for free in the post as I live up North.

Yes, from Torque GT/
Warranty? I don't even know or receive any wording or document saying about it.
Should I ask them what warranty they do cover?

TGM is not local but I think it is closet to West Oxfordshire I reckon.
Is it only one "Tom" at TGM? Thanks in advance.

Usually it's 3 months warranty from Torque, Tom @ TGM are based in Fleet (the one and only LOL)

Speak to Torque regarding the problem ;)

When I got my car late last year they included a 3 month warranty, I can't remember what it covered exactly but they give great customer service. Whilst the car is at TGM you may aswell get them to give it a good check over including the valve clearances and timing chain :)

Torque GT just replied me that they do offer 3 month warranty on Engine and Transmissions.
Glad that I got the reminder here.

Would take the car to TGM for check-up, and hopefully it would not have major problem. So far I have driven it a short period of time, I feel everything good.
Best Wish the gamble on low mileage one would pay at least/late maintenance in first year of ownership.
