Reverse light bulb

I had my car serviced this week and it was noted that the current setup for my rear fog is likely to fail the MOT due to not being bright enough. It's been wired into the right reverse light, with a standard bulb painted red. I agree it's not bright enough to be any use.

My question is, what type of bulb are the reverse lights? I've had a search and the general consensus is a T10 wedge, so I ordered a bright red LED in this fitment, and it wasn't the right size. The wedge on this bulb was about 5mm wide, whereas the bulb currently on the car is about 15-16mm wide.

Any list of bulbs for the car I found, the reverse lights were listed as 'unknown'

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

For anyone interested it was a 582 wedge bulb.

I've now got a red 9 LED bulb fitted. But it's no brighter than the standard filament bulb was. Any suggestions? I can't find any bulbs with a higher power output (21W) so I've run out of ideas.

My other option would be to wire up the diode and brake light setup, but I don't trust myself enough to do that.

I'm guessing this is the how to?

It looks simple enough, and I may end up just doing that. Question though, what diodes do you need? I've had a look on Maplins website and there are many variations.
