Hello. Its my first service with my DC5 and ive been searching but not finding the answers i want.

Ive been quoted £195 from a honda dealership for a "basic" service.
Oil change, filters and some sort of plug (not sparks). + an inspection.

Isnt this just an oil change? what am i paying £195 for?

How often should i have my brake fluid changed?

When i had my MOT done the garage done some sort of "Free" health check on my car and nothing was flagged what so ever.

If it's just an oil change do it yourself mate. Hardest bit I found (apart from dropping the sump plug in the oil :xlol: ) was the Oil Filter. Everything else was easy.

I don't know my way around a car too well, but with some help from a friend and a bit of patience I did most of mine myself. (Special thanks to Leejw for his assistance with the Oil Filter and other bits I had questions about!)

Can't see myself paying for a basic from now on

ive got mine coming up in a couple of thousand miles and was thinking the same, but its been serviced by Honda since the import so i dont know whether to just leave it with them to keep the full dealer service history or not.

Does seem alot of money for an oil and filter change!

Im going to cancel the booking ive made. I cant justifiy paying £195 for an oil change, espcially after ive had my car inspected only 2 months ago. A free one but they were looking for my business and couldnt find anything to mention!

Oil change myself me thinks!

Some of the Traders on here can do it at almost half the price.

Ok so the following was done 2 years ago (max 10k miles)

Brake Fluid
Gear Box Oil
Spark Plugs
Valve clearance
Oil (then again 1 year ago)
Oil filter (then again 1 year ago)
Pollen filter
I think the o2 filter was replaced then or near the time. I seen it in the mountain of paperwork the owner gave me.

Sounds like a major service?

Really to me it sounds as if i only need to replace the engine oil and the oil filter?
Its passed its MOT 100% aswell as no work needed from the inspection.

Self service this year?
Anything else i should be looking for considering the list and time given above?

Just canceled my booking,

£130 for an oil change (no filter)
£70 for oil change (if i supply oil)

--

Ive now booked a oil change + filter change + inspection with arnold clark for £90.
Or £60 if u supply oil.

Seeing as my cars had £2.90 filters in it for the last 2 years i doubt the ones they will use will be any better / worse.

Worked on my car before and cant fault them. Case closed i guess.

Thanks everyone.

Just to change the oil?!? Wow that seems a lot.
Yup its insane. Really i should just do this myself but £90 from AC seems fair and will be somthing "offical" to add to the service history.

Make friends with someone at Honda. Do it yourself, get them to stamp it! :xcheers:

But yeah, peace of mind and all that as well. I only did it myself initially to save money. But having seen how simple it is, and I'm not really bothered about history (I have no intention of selling it) it makes sense for me to do it again and again at the cost of the oil only.

It is a lot of cash but Honda charge 60 odd quid an hour for their technicians so for their point of view the oil change wont take an hour but they will always round up! In addition an OEM oil filter is £10.49 inc VAT at the moment.

I paid £80 for an oil, filter and health check from my local Honda Dealer... thought it was fairly reasonable.

I understand when people say do it yourself but I think it's piece of mind for let's say a perspective buyer in the future that they can actually see it's being serviced, if you catch my drift.

Ps on Thursday they are fitting my new Toyo's and carrying out 4 wheel laser alignment for £60.00... Again I think a very good price for a main dealer :)

i paid £240 to my local honda for engine oil change, gear oil change, break fluid change and a inspection. i supplied all the fluids apart from gear oil.

at the time i thought it was reasonable but thinking about it now seems a bit steep. only prob with doing it yourself is you dont get proof of the work done, so when it comes to selling on you got no paperwork to prove its been looked after.

Receipts for the fluids would be sufficient I think.
£240 is steep for that lot though, specially if you supplied fluids!

l wouldn't let a Honda tec anywhere near my DC5 not after they kept breaking my DC2  Honda UK stepped in and picked up a over £1000 bill in the end and the cost of a hire car!

Either service yourself or use a performance car specialist for servicing as their hourly rate will be much less and they will know more about your car than a Honda tec.

l got Tom a TGM to check and work on my DC5 when l brought it last year.........great bloke and great service :D

It's a tricky one, I'd rather pay someone I trust to do the work so there is at least some paper trails of the car being serviced. I take mine to TGM. Not sure it makes much difference when it comes to selling the car but would you buy a car with little or no history???

I do all my own work on my car as I work as a Citroen/Peugeout Technician.

I buy all my parts from Honda and I have a friend that works there that gives me the genuine Honda checklists.

So when I do my services I have receipts and a proper checksheet to show what's been carried out, then I stamp the book with our company Stamp.

Service complete, genuine parts & decent paperwork

Job done :)
