I represented the company (big civil aerospace company) I work for today at a Military Show as a VIP. (Black tie etc) the event (Preston Miltary Show) was open to the general public. I turned up at the Barracks and was directed to the VIP parking area, as I approached I realised I couldn't escape and was directed to the reserved spot for me and greeted by some senior NCO there were lots of Mayor's limo's Top of the range BMW's Range Rovers. Big Audi's Mercs Bentley's and a dirty White DC5 big Zorst and Gruppe M  Lots of very senior Officers, Lords, county Sheriffs, etc. Oh well it 23 years ago since I lasted visited Fulwood Barracks as a Corporal this time round canapes, silver service drinks reception before being escorted to sit in the VIP area to watch the miltary band. As the event finished majority of people set off at the same time, I looked very smart in my black tie attire waiting to get off the carpark

The car usually turns heads but today for the wrong reasons

Don't worry about it mate, I've felt like this too, but I release my frustration whenever someone feels their car is better than a Honda on road

Ha ha, sounds like an awkward situation, you should have spun the wheels up as you pulled away!

Never felt embarrassed in my car, I have been complimented by all sorts of people, guy with a very smart BMW at a petrol garage loved it, the very posh toast master at my sisters wedding loved it as well (he was in his 50's!) many others have complimented.

A car is material wealth at the end of the day, clearly you don't have more money than sense. If they are judging you by the car you drive, then it is them that are embarrassing themselves.

Thats my opinion anyway.

I would love that. I would not be embarassed at all. It just goes to show how wrong other people are with their stereotype. The last thing they prob expect is someone in a suit and very respectable getting out of a car with as big a rear spoiler as the DC5 has. I enjoy getting out of my car in a suit

Yeah I have to agree in some situations the teg is not the car I want to be seen turning up in thats why mine is not my daily drive at the end of the day it don't matter what I think its how my customers see me and with its styling a 40 year old guy getting out of one can look a bit chavvy in certain situations, how ever if its not work related I don't care what people think.

To be fair, I don't think you should be embarrassed by anything. It's stereotypical to think that if your suited and booted that you should be turning up in a BMW, Audi, Merc, etc.

It's society today that makes sports cars social unacceptable, as anything that is Japanese and sounds loud is instantly seen as an ASBO car. However, if you were to turn up in an R8, 911 Turbo, or Ferrari. They wouldn't look twice. (not for the wrong reasons anyway).

At the end of the day, a car in its most basic form are all the same and no matter what size, style or noise it gives off, it's your mode of transport. Everyone has different tastes. I think it's wrong to stereotype someone by the type of car they have. (unless you drive a chav'd up Halfords mobile, then by all means, give all the dirty looks you want! ;))

My 2p :)

Fulwood Barracks. I was based there for a while doing training courses for the Infantry. Anyway, reference your original question, I'm never embarrassed. I am a SNCO in the Army and along with the RS, I always get the p*ss taken out of me, saying I should grow up etc (all friendly banter) but in truth, and many people have said this, they are just jealous! People who know cars know the DC5 is one of the best drivers cars ever. With the cars that were round it today, I would say that yours was by far the best looking one, and I bet if they were any military personnel on the camp they would agree!

The DC5 has a much poorer reputation in Ireland than the UK, over here it is considered a boyracer car and its not so rare either. As an engineer i have had derogatory comments in the past about my DC5 when on site with my job. Its not ideal! I get a good slagging off all my mates aswell.

lmao i totally know how you feel! what can you do, the fact is people judge....but who are they to judge.....

nowadays cars are like accessories, a type r is not the best accessory to go to a fancy black tie event in....its sort of like wearing sneakers at a wedding, not as bad, but its just an example....

another would be having a 7 series bmw as a track car.....it wouldnt make sense.....but its your car, your life to hell with what people think....

i went to an interview once with a suit on in a dc2.....lol.i felt funny too.

its all wrong but what can ya do....i felt like a chav.......

I find the teg as a good topic of conversation regardless of the audience. Some ppl initially may have a reserved opinion of it but after talking about the merits of the car and in particular track work and it's development their opinion soon changes to that of interest

All u need to do is take then for a spin, and give it some 'type r'. Im sure their minds will change.

I undastand how u feel,i was in an EJ1 slammed and all the usuals,i know not a dc5 TUT,and i was working at the institute of cancer therapeutics, i parked the car owtside, directly my fellow researcher saw me and he slated me for driving it saying its for chavs and all.

Straight after the most senior research proffesor aproached me hes like 59,and he shuck my hand and said that he would not expect a scientist to have an orignal car like that, and he saluted me.he drove a sir crx himself,i found out!lol

LOL....completely understand where the OP is coming from....

However, I wouldn't feel "fully embarassed" when in these situation......I mean its not like you've turned up in an old Volvo estate ....lol......I think that DC5 are very good looking cars standard....

Probably the people driving porkys (or any car enthusiast) at that event would have known about the dc5....

on weekends i dress like a proper chav with my adidas track suit n cap....and when i get out of my car ( bmw 335i btw), people look at me weird....lol....
