Sticky clutch operation following high speed motorway run

My clutch feels perfect except when I come off a motorway after about 15 miles or more and then go on to normal roads.

Its as if the car had a cable clutch with a knackered cable liner so when then clutch is being released the cable is snagging.

It goes after about 5 miles or so.

My mechanic mate looked at it and suggested that where the end of the slave pushes against the gearbx leaver might need greasing and so he did this for me. Its kind of like a ball joint and he showed it to me and it did get rid of the problem for about 2 weeks only. i am therefore thinking that the gearbox lever socket may have a liner of some type (like a plastic sleve?) and this may be knackered but I can't see high enough to it to see if this is the cae and my mate has never worked on a DC5 before so he doesn't know either.

I asked the local Honda dealer and they don't know but will look in to it next time they service it. I don't want them ripping me off thoigh as they were talking about £60 if it needed a new clutch and 450 if it was the release bearing but they said might as well do the whole clutch if it was that.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know of good placed to take the car in the north of England?

ITR DC5 white 02 63k miles.
