Came across this thread in the CTR forum:

2nd Gear Fix

Sound familiar????

What are the chances of our synchros being sorted???

P.S.Very similar to the rubbish gearbox on my early S2k

Redline Transmission Oil

I had the 2nd gear problem before on an RX-7 and I fixed the problem again on my DC5 by using better oil than the acclaimed Honda Lubricant. I have taken advice from many people on this and I am assured that the Redline MTL transmission oil is safe for the box and LSD. I have just put redline in my gearbox and there is no problem engaging any gear when cold, what I will say though is change the oil every main service which for me is 9k with 4.5k intermediate services.

That Notchy Gearbox AGAIN!!

Does anyone know if the RSX Type S, 6 speed tranny is the same as ours?

Came across this whilst browsing and don't remember reading it before:

http://rsx.clubrsx.com/bulletins/transm ... lletin.pdf

I drag this up again as my car is booked in for three days to have the tranny stripped & repaired (oooerr) under warranty.

Can't cope with the continuing notchiness and scraping noises on overrun

Dealers initial impression was the final drive but we won't know until it's in pieces.

Hi Simon,

Have you ever changed the transmission fluid? This fixed my cold 2nd gear problem and made all the other gear changes smoother. I don't think I could have lived with the old gear change problems since I have a B&M quick shifter fitted.

Jon

PS Could this be an oppotunity for a lighter flywheel install ???? :)

Jon,
what fluid are you running now then?
or was it just a straight change for the same fluid as per Mr Honda intended?

Hi Duncs,

It was replaced with the same stuff. I don't know the spec. but I believe someone has posted what it is on the forum somewhere. CPL did the change for me last time I had a dyno done there.

Cheers,

Jon

That's an idea  :D

The oil is all glittery so we know somethings up :(
Nonsense... the VTEC fairies have been in there :D !

Pardon my ignorance, but what are the symptoms of this issue?

LOL

Re the final drive:On overrun in the low rpms,at lower speeds, you can hear what sounds like a pepper mill grinding metal instead of peppercorns.
(as a way of describing it,or the "vtec fairies" rolling around scrubbing the inside of the tranny with loud Brillo Pads,is another)

Plus the gearchange is notchy when cold, whether is related or not,I don't know.

Glittery oil shows something is rubbing metal 2 metal.

We shall see.

I can relate to the pepercorn scenario hehe. Has changing the gearbox oil sorted out the noise?

You getting a 2nd gear fix, let us know how much and what the fault was:)

I think also if there are little filings in the gearbox oil im going to be getting myself some Spoon magnetic sump plugs from Tom at TGM Sport. Get all the little suckers out.

Talk about a thread revival :xgrin:

6years since its last post must be a record lol

In relation to your question, usualy a change of gearbox oil sorts it out, well it helped mine anyway

Honda MTF 111 is what i used, hope this helps :xgrin:
