Track Day Insurance

I did a search but I couldn't find the information I'm after so I thought I'd post this instead.

What with Japfest 2 coming up and my imminent track usage, I have been trying to look into Track Day Insurance... Do I 100% need it? Am I covered by my exisiting insurance policy? Is there a way of checking without 'giving the game away to them' so to speak?

Who are the best people to go with? Do I need to tell my insurance company if I'm going on a track and have seperate track insurance?

Cheers,

Phil

Unless youve got specialist insurance (check your T&C's) then i doubt youve got it if youve gone with Sky/A-Plan etc

Some insurance companies will include it though it means your premium will be around 500 more than your cheapest quote (that ive found) and will cover you on any trackday that is officially martialled and not you and your mates on a deserted airfield. If you intend to do multiple trackdays a year then this works out to be the most cost effective.

If you go with a seperate broker then ive found track insurance to be 10% the value of your car and i cant think who the two are but Morris springs to mind and i cant remember the other one.

No you dont need to inform the other company that your going on track with another companies insurance.

As for needing it/not needing it, thats for you to decide. Ive always taken insurance out and luckily never needed to use it though back in the day, someone on here went out on track without it, either got t-boned or t-boned someone and was left with a 5k damage bill (that had to come out of his pocket) to his Teg. There was also talk about drivers trying to claim compo but im not sure about the legality of it all.

So basically its up to you to decide but for the sake of 80 quid say and having seen other drivers in action on these non-dedicated days, id go with it (though if your only out with the DC5 lot then you should be okay, just dont try to be a driving hero and drive the track as you would a B-road - assuming you have no track experience - as self preservation and the need to drive home should come first)

Thanks for the information. I'm with Admiral, so will investigate my T & C's and see if I am covered.

I'm the sort of person who will get hit. It's just my luck. I'm by no means a bad driver, but if something bad can happen to someone, chances are it'll be me! It's just one of those things.

I will be definately getting it, taking no risks!

Cheers Kingston,

I take it you want a red not a green for that? Hehe :xcheers:

I doubt you are if your with admiral but you never know...

For the sake of 80ish quid you might as well, you might as well buy more track time to get the most value from it as well and ends up (or used to be) a cheap way of doing a track day. Donny's a nice circuit as well (except the last chicance just dont over cook it lol)

It doesnt matter anymore as the results are hidden and for mods eyes only

I've definitely heard of track drivers pushing it out on to the road after an accident so that they will be covered! I don't think it's that easy, a lot easier to get insurnace for the track... Last track day I went on I didn't have insurance on track and some guy almost crashed into me, if it weren't for my Tsuchiya style reactions would have probably written me off!
If you can get it then please do :).
