Trade in value of the DC5

A specialist performance car trader (All Vehicles) has asked me to consider what price I would be willing accept for the DC5 against one of his vehicles bearing in mind he could only give me a trade in amount, so I thought I'd consult the fountain of knowledge on here. I'm not wanting to undersell the car or ask for a silly price, I haven't a clue of trade in values and the DC5 isn't in Parkers or Glasses guide.

Originally imported by Andy at 200BHP, 51 plate Arctic Blue, 31,600 miles in excellent condition, 2 UK owners
Service history since import (Unit 8/Eight Speed)
All original import paperwork
Clifford Concept 650 Alarm & Immobiliser
Gruppe M Induction
Spoon Progressive Springs
Spoon B pipe
10 months MOT with new Tyres, new Front discs and pads

Any input is much appreciated.

Thought about splitting parts off of it to make up a bit more cash as they wont add to the trade in value?

purely because its on a 51 plate id be willing to pay around the 9k mark but as you want to trade in with a trader you may not get that.

Try 9k with him first but if he trys to knock you down to anything less than £8,500 then go privately

I'd say 8.5 but he'll prob say 8. Have had a few conversations with the chap-nice bloke. In Surrey right? He's had an FD2 or two before now.

What have you got your eye on if you don't mind me asking.

I've had a DC5 and an R26 off steve.
Great guy. Really good to deal with.

Unfortunately, being realistic, private your car is worth 8-8.5k so being honest, if he offers more than 7 I'll be very surprised.

He's an honest guy and doesn't suffer fools.

sell the groupe m and i think youd be looking at 8500 to 9000 trade in because of its low mileage thats a major plus.

Apart from the fact its blue id still be prepaired to pay upto 10k for a good example with low mileage

LOL.... I've been looking at the Renaultsport Clio 200 to be honest (prepares to be shot down in flames  ) along with other cars, I wouldn't be looking to replace the Teg with something of the same handling and performance, I don't think any of the newer breed of hot hatches would live up to the DC5 but there are some decent cars out there.
Anyway my options are very much open at the moment and I'm in no rush to sell just testing the water, I've had interest in the mods so would probably remove them.

Thanks for the input so far.

TBH so would I.

When it comes to imports, I don't really look at the age of the car. For me it's the mileage and overall condition.
Just because a car is newer does not mean it's work more IMO.
I'd rather have the above example at just over 30k miles than a fresh import with over double the mileage.

CLICK HERE for what I think it's worth.

I would say your car could sell between 8.5k - 9.5k depending on the condition on the private market

I doubt a trader would give you any more than 7k - 7.5k PX unless they are making very good money on the other car, in which case you are probably paying too much anyway.

My advice would be to strip the Gruppe M and Spoon B pipe first, as they'll come off and sell easily, but wont necessarily make your car worth any more in the eyes of a trader.

Going to be a lot less trade in, do yourself a favour and sell it private.

Id say 6.5- 7k trade in and 9k private.

I'd agree with that, sell it private and you will be around 2.5k better off for your troubles. I dont think you will have any problems selling with the mileage, condition, gruppe m etc for between 8-9k, so why let the dealer pocket the extra cash, then you can get a discount for the car your buying for no p/x. You wont get any favours for a trade in, they will be looking to clear 2k on a sale and thats before any discounts etc if they cant shift it, so prob offer you 6-6.5k.

You will need the extra cash to modify a Clio to handle as well as a DC5 anyway

Took a both a Cup and non cup chassis Clio 200 Renaultsport out for a test drive earlier today, to be honest for road driving you can't really tell the difference between the two.
I read all about how hard the suspension was on the Cup and people might not be able to live with it day to day and all I can say is that it's luxury compared to the DC5, some people must have glass spines, its not hard at all in my opinion.

I put them both through their paces (had to power past a dawdling Civic FN2 on the way  ) and performance wise it's not a bad little motor and I couldn't dislike it, I guess it would be lots of fun to throw round some serious B roads and a nice daily drive round town, work and back etc but the engine certainly doesn't pull like the Type R and I missed the vtec kick.

I kicked the Tegs arse on the way home and there was no comparison really, moral of the story is that driving another performance car just reminds you what a fantastic car the DC5 is and just how good the Honda engine is, me thinks the Teg will be with me a little bit longer yet :D
