Lamentable loss, but one of the perils of driving a car (particularly at speed) is that it will readily take out animals...I can tell you about an incident involving my DC2, a very scared sheep and an Impreza...(suffice it to say I lost all respect for Impreza brakes that day!)
I really hate the sound bugs make as they splat on my windscreen. I do feel bad. But what's the alternative? Walk everywhere?
