vtec

I took my teg in to my local Honda garage where i had my standard airbox re-fitted to the teg. just as i left, the engine management light came on, doh!! took it back in, they fiddled with the ecu and it dissapeared. great i thought!!! Then as i drove home i realised my vtec doesnt work properly!! took it back in ( 3rd time lucky ) and they said YES the vtec is working but not sure if its working at 100% as the software they have limits them to what they find out. Anyone had this problem before or shed any light on the matter?

firstly check your oil level, it needs to be on the max mark to ensure proper vtec engagement.

it would seem strange why they fiddled with the ecu though.

you can do a reset yourself by disconnecting it leaving for a minute then reconnecting it.

im sorry but as long as the oil level in above minimum you wont have any problems with vtec.

The fact that they "fiddled" with teh ecu worries me.

This sounds like an eletrical issue.

Sounds like this is the reason if you have never had your OE box on before.

I have had my standard airbox on from day one, and believe me, there is a very noticable difference on Vtec change over  , very hard not to notice it  , i cannot see changing from a induction kit to standard there being a huge difference. I recently tried out a Typhoon kit, and yes the sound is different on change over, but the feeling aint

Also as long as the oil aint way way down, i cannot see it making much of a difference, Vtec should function fine.

Run it for a while mate, give it 50 miles, then if you still aint happy, i would be looking to take it too a specialist, which you should be able to find on here

Zani,
it is well documented on here that having low oil can stop the vtec working,
it is common for it to be above minimun and still not to work.

Have checked the oil and is at maximum so will try running it in for a few miles and see what happens. my mates dc2 had the same problem but his just came back after a while for some reason.
Cheers for the help guys.

I don't know if its the same for a dc5 as the dc5 has k series engine but on my dc2 I had vtec kicking in and then next it wouldn't.

I checked the oil and had the ecu reset but in the end there was a plug on the electrics in the engine bay loose causing it to work then not.

Don't know if it helps but just thought I may throw that in. Honda sorted the problem for me
