Hello everyone, this is my first post! I have been fancying a dc5 for years and now it looks as if I'll have the loan funds next week to start looking around. I have a car to sell first but hopefully I'll be hunting for a Teg very soon.

Have had a look through the buyers guide, very helpful thanks. The question I have is around car age. Generally I always think the newest example is going to be the best (taking into account owner history) but is this the same with a Teg? It might sound a stupid question but I've noticed minimal price difference between a 2006 30k miles example on autotrader for 9.3k and say a 2001 50k miles Teg still fetching £8k or more. Is there an obvious reason to go for an older example or should I go ahead and get the newer model? Its bodywork im particularly concerned about with these cars as i have no garage and i'd like to think 5 years less exposure to road salt has to be a good thing! Thanks for your help. Dave

Go for newer facelift its better. TBH tegs hold value well if looked after but always go with newer car in my opinion unless its been abused which again is unlikely as its market generally is for enthutiasts unlike is cousin the civic.

Forgot to add check insurance first you may be in for a shock im cheaper on a 09 GTR lol

Youch! So a newer Teg maybe worse to insure or you just saying about Tegs in general? Got a quote on an 02 for about £1100 and that was Adrian flux. Haven't tried sky yet but they may be even cheaper. That's a quote for a 27 year old 8 years NCB, no accidents, no points. Other thing I wondered was if a newer model may be different on tax but wanted to ask how much people generally pay on here? I know there's about 3 possible tax bands the car can be put in but is there a favourite that most fall in? Thanks for the reply.

I am similar to you with 7 yncb age 26 with low crime rate area £770 I was a little shocked when i found out after i purchased as before i had mods declared 360bhp turbo monster lol and paid £400 less lol.

All integra dc5 are high insurance as all imports try the specialists listed here they will give you the best price.

The tax band issue is to do with the importer I believe so will vary from car to car I have a facelift model 05 and pay the middle tax.

Dont let this put you off its the best car I have ever owned they arent slow stock either mines has breathing mods and ran 14.3 @102.5 thats as quick as a new focus rs. My mates scooby sti 300bhp rollling 30-100 i am in front a couple of lenghts lol

What car are you coming from ?

Well at the moment I've got a Focus TDCI which I know is a bit of a jump up in performance but I have owned quicker cars prior to this one. The Focus was a sensible purchase as I do about 1000 miles per month so I wanted something more economical. For a diesel though it sucks as far as economy goes. I get 38mpg combined as opposed to the 54mpg quoted which I know is still better than a Teg but for the difference in performance I've come to the conclusion that I'd sooner sacrifice 10mpg and be happy with the way the car drives than be stuck in the most average car ever. It's just so mediocre I decided after about a week that it wasn't for me. Unfortunately I've had to keep it for about 7 months now before my credit score was at an acceptable level to get a loan. I've always bought cars on finance with a slightly lower than average credit score but I realised to buy a Teg I'd need a loan so I've been building my score over the last few months to get shot of the Focus.

Anyway I'm digressing! Previous cars owned have been BMW E46 320ci, Astra Gsi Turbo and Nissan S13 200sx. The 200sx spent most of its time in a garage so I wasn't too impressed with that and the Astra GSI was just plain dangerous when it came to handling but was quick for a 190bhp car.

The best car I've owned up to now had to be the beemer. It wasn't the quickest of its range and I often wished I'd got the 330ci. If I had I'd probably still have it now but for general driver satisfaction I loved the 6 cylinder purr and RWD the 320 had despite not being particularly quick. It was 170bhp and wasn't light but it was a lovely drive. I'd easily buy another BM but just wanted a change.

I've always like the DC5 and want to drive as many different variations of engine as I can: 6cyl, 8cyl, Boxer, Turbo, Supercharged........ VTEC is something I've not experienced yet and I don't know if there is anything better than a DC5 to experience it in. The S2000 is a nice car but impractical for me and from what I've heard about the DC5's ability as a track weapon I'm not convinced an S2000 will handle like a DC5 stock for stock either!

I'm really looking forward to having one, I know it will feel real quick to begin with. Quickest car I've actually driven to date is my mates 225bhp Focus ST. It felt rapid but I think they weigh something like 1600kgs? I think the Teg with a similar amount of power but considerably less weight will feel so much quicker again! I initially was looking at an EP3 type R but my mate in the Focus kept saying how many he beat with ease in his car so I thought "Right, lets see if you can argue with a Teg" lol

I come from a 430bhp ish audi s4 and though i havent tested the teg to its limit yet (in 3 weeks i can answer that) the teg feels far tighter and fairly quick for a N/A car. to be honest, im alot happier I went for one of these specially that i want to do alot of track days this year. i was inbetween the dc5 and a s2000 as there prices were getting cheaper, but as you say "impratical"

for prices etc, i have a 51 plate, lower tax band, 54k on the clock, full c-pack with push button and bought for £6700. in my opinion, i prefere the front of the pre face lifts.

for insurance, im 23, 4 ncb paying 1.1k for mine with admiral. it is a multi car policy but i have a bmw 318is coupe and all totals to £1800.
