Well im all ready now to get either a DC5 or possibly an Evo 6 and want to know your views/comparisons on the both....

Obviously the most practical would be the DC5 due to running costs, insurance being a little lower etc.... but the Evo will probably have the edge on the performance side....

Am i likely to get bored with a DC5????

Any help would be great!

Also, what kind of MPG do you all get in your DC5's???

Cheers
Chris ;)

It's an obvious answer given that this is a DC5 forum but... I would recommend the DC5. I've never owned an Evo of any kind but my experience has shown that though the RallyMeister is quicker from a standing start once the ton is reached the DC5 outpaces it quite comfortably - and I have tested this theory in several settings  . I averaged 28-32mpg and, as my previous comment may suggest, I was not shy of using the v-tec  . I never got bored with my DC5, only selling it because I needed to raise some capital, and shall be returning to the fold as soon as finances allow. I like the looks of the Mitsubishi but it doesn't come close to the glorious looks of the Teg - and how rare do you want your car to be 8) . Sorry I can't be more neutral but there you go...

yeah i expected a slightly bias opinion on here!!!! I just dont want to spend the money on a DC5 and regret that i didn't buy an Evo.

Servicing wise, how frequent are they done and is it silly expensive??

And whats the best place for insurance as i have noticed that tesco online dont list the DC5....

Cheers

I've never owned an Evo either but I did have an Impreza STi before my Teg. Whilst the Impreza was faster (though not a lot faster) and had more torque, The teg is plenty fast if you keep it in vtec and I think it's a more involving and enjoyable drive. Evo running costs are likely to be high, the servicing interval will be short and it'll eat all 4 tyres. I'm sure you'd enjoy either car a lot though.

You have to ring Tesco's to get a quote on a DC5, there's a list of insurance companies that'll insure one in the insurance section somewhere. I found A-Plan to offer the best price, but it varies.

Mate my question to you is... do you want a trackday car.. a every day road car, a car that is good on fuel (until you hit the VTEC), a car that looks good and can be modded BUT will cost a bit to get a lot more power out of it.. OR do you want a car that you can take down the lanes every sunday morning , get all your mates in nice and easy and not lose power if you decided to have a burn with another motor being 4 up!! A car that you can be easy modded without chucking to much money at it and get to 300 plus bhp, a car that might cost you a fair bit to insure and a car that will defo cost you an arm and a leg in fuel.....

Basically ask yourself them questions and you will know which car you really want...

I use to own a scooby for 3 years, which I had quite modded, 280bhp from a standard UK scooby and what do I miss the most ... the raw power of the turbo, the torque, the sound of my dump valve  and most of all the great Sunday morning drives at 5.30 on a summers morning down the lanes ...

But saying all of that the cost of fuel, insurance and the fear that any day now my engine might blow was one reason of getting rid of the car...

As for my TEG .. well what can I say... I love it... but for two reasons ... 1) it is so great to drive on track .. that is what these cars are for.. not for shopping or 0-60 runs, not for lane driving .. well not mine .. she jumps all over the place with my TEINs on, but for track.. plain and simple... the car comes into its own on track or smooth tight lanes.

and 2) well I just think they look the dogs... everyone has seen scoobies and evos.. but DC5's turn heads.. and put a body kit on it and man you have everyone stopping and looking... Well mine does and thats no lie.. the amount of times I have been in London at traffic lights and someone has taken a picture of my car ... :D

Now I keep going on about track.. now lets say you think.. well I dont want to do trackdays, so this car isnt for me... not true... its still a great road car with good power but once you put a bit of weight in the car your power will soon start dropping... IE get 4 in the TEG and forget about trying to use the VTEC as you will be just wasting fuel... Dont get me wrong... 4 people can get into the car with out any problems with loads of room in the boot for cases etc.. I had four of us in there all the way to Holland and back when I first got the car... but I will never do it again... I hated the fact that the car just had no power....

Way up YOUR pros and cons to the two cars and see what you want out of the car...

1.Insurance will be cheaper in the TEG than the EVO
2.Servicing will be cheaping in the TEG than the EVO
3.Pads, tyres etc will be the same
4.The EVO will have more raw power and will be easier and cheaper to mod
5.More after market stuff in the UK for the EVO than the TEG ..but it is getting better
6. I think the EVO six is a handful to drive it fast and unless you know what your doing be very careful..No ABS etc... I wanted an EVO 6 .. Best EVO (looking wise I think)
7. The TEG is just as involving to drive fast ..but it is sooo much nicer to drive than the Scooby..
8. EVO looks mean
9. TEG with a body kit looks better 8)
10. More honda dealers around so you can get it serviced with no problem and MOST parts only take 2 days to get
11. Overal running costs will be cheaper in the TEG and you WILL defo get more miles to the gallon... Plus you can (if you wish) get a Hondata ECU and run it on 95 RON making it cheaper to run if you do lots of miles.
12. Like the EVO the TEG comes with Brembo 4 pots and Brembo disc at the front and recardo Seats plus Mono steering wheel.

But hey this is just my opinon... maybe, if you havent already.. try and jump into a TEG and see what you think...

thanks for that matey.... Blimey, must've taken some time to write!! I am swaying more the Teg, even though ive just become a paying MLR member!! :S..... Its the running and reliability costs which are doing it. Ive heard DC5's are great handling cars, hence comparing them against the evo. I know power isn't there, but so long as it has enough poke not to get bored im not too fussed. I will be taking on track aswell hopefully.

Im going to look at 2 on Saturday, one white and one black. The black one has a few mods like coilovers, double DIN alpine stereo etc, but slightly higher mileage at 37k, and the other white one has 23k.... So hopefully it will sway me to buy one of them!!

Cheers

Well good luck with your findings .. becareful with the coilovers... let us know what brand they are because if the car is say a couple of K more because of the mods.. then buy the cheaper can and then put on your own mods... IE set of pucker TEINs coilovers etc...

I think you will be surprise at how quick these cars are to be honest and yes they do handle very very well...
