LIke has the Mfactory 5.46, it's great, you can see a video of him at Donnigton on YouTube

£ for performance they are one of the best mods you can do

Thanks

It's deffinitely a worth while mod. I fitted a 5.1FD myself, but that was because the standard output shaft managed to somehow eat itself...

I was roughly quoted about £250 to replace the FD (only labour), but that was with the gearbox out so I imagine maybe another £100 max with it in the car.

Although there may be an improvement in acceleration, this tends to be more apparent at higher gears/ lower revs, i.e. 5th at 4k revs will pull a lot more than it used to.

As Coyote previously stated, 280hp - 5.1fd vs 260hp - 5.46fd they are matched at higher revs. From a lower rev pull the 5.46fd gets the edge...

What ever questions / concerns you have send them over. I've had the mfactory 5.46 for a few months now and would recommend it to everyone. I do a LOT of m'way miles as use car as daily and it's not too much, well not for me anyway. The pros definitely out weigh the cons.

To give you an idea, 70mph is about 4,300 rpm but tbh mpg hasn't really changed. I've just been amazed with the 5th and 6th pull now, it's more akin to 4th and 5th. 2nd and 3rd is brutal, especially with 260hp lol

tricker Luke has a 5.1 so he can talk about that one but IMO if you want to explore a different FD, then 5.1 is too subtle and the 5.46 just puts a smile on your face. I think people have been a little nervous going for something as aggressive as a 5.46 for everyday use so have typically stuck with a 5.1 but trust me it's not that bad!

On the track, well I'm speechless, it's just epic :D
Hey dude
Taking you up on your offer to send over questions about the final drive ha, The more I look at it the more I love the idea of getting it done... My main concern is everyday use; Does the 5.46 effect your fuel consumption much? How many miles do you get out of a tank?
If you don't mind me asking how much did it cost you to have it fitted, Luke thought it might cost around £350ish?
Some people have said it makes the drive a lot more noisy? I'm not drastically bothered by this unless its excessive noise?
Many thanks
Gareth

Still getting around 300 to a tank so not really effected it. As for noise yes! You get more wine from the box and of course revs are around 500rpm more than usual so exhaust note is louder. I've got an n1 with decat header and I still use as a daily. As for cost, I bought the whole box with it in so can't really comment. Worth every penny though :p

After I fitted 225/45/17 tyres from 215/40/17 I noticed a drop in acceleration (5% difference)

Gearing is so important on these N/A motors.

I'm going to keep my eye out for an oem 5.06 fd to get the zip back!

Ha yes very true. I run 40's on the track and I'm doing about 5k rpm at 60mph with those! Makes a big difference to 45's. I think running 16" wheels with 40's is equivalent of a 5.1 FD

I have had a normal final drive - changed to 5.46 and also a jdm ep3 with a spoon 5.1.

It doesn't affect mpg too much. I was averaging 250-300 miles per tank town driving mostly.

Costs - it cost me a fair whack tbh. I took it to Honda first of all. I had a new clutch, flywheel, mfactory lsd, diff bearings, and final drive.
As you can see about 1500+ in parts.
I wanted to keep a full Honda service history but after this visit I was put off and went to a specialist afterwards
Ok so they fitted the parts and inspected the box. A couple of things got replaced. Am sure 3rd was worn alittle so was replaced.
Bill was 800+ if I remember right. Within 300 miles the car had broke its driveshaft.
Got a new one and Honda fitted it fit free after a argument.

Anyway after that I took it to a specialist to make sure it was done right.
Box was opened again and took apart and inspected. So as the box was opened again I bought the carbon lined synchos.
The diff bearings were nakkered aswell so new bearings ordered and fitted. Everything else was fine and the box was rebuilt.
Was fine after that and I changed the oil regularly.
As dan will tell you good the gearbox was.

So I can't tell you a exact price for final drive as i had loads of other bits fitted and had to do it twice ha.

Drove really good and never bothered me about driving daily. Could easily drive about in 6th most of time. Pulled so much more.
With my car at 250hp and vtec lowered to 4-4.5k it was in vtec at 70mph in 6th at full throttle.
If I were to do it again I would do a 5.8 or 6.1 lol.
The cons dont bother me and are worth it for the pros.

You will like it. As advised I would do clutch and flywheel etc at same time.
