If you had £1k to spend on mods..

It may be controversial but I'd say if the car is a daily then try to avoid the temptation to modify the car as it will become tiring when driving it every day, lightened flywheel and final drive changes will make it more of a pain in traffic and on the motorway.

Maybe just remap the stock car to lower the vtec point which will make the car feel quicker.

Just my 2p!

Yeah, the car has been fully serviced with Miller's cfs nanodrive 5w40, Hamp oil filter, NGK iridium plugs and Honda MTF gearbox oil.
The clutch is an excellent idea, previous owner said it's got an Exedy in it but the bite feels quiet high on it though it's not slipping and maybe has plenty life left in it.

About this Spoon final gear, what does it actually do?? Just shorter gesr ratios for all the gears?

That's good, best to get it all fresh before you start doing stuff imo. Yeah the final drive effects all gears and essentially shortens them, see below.

I use mine daily, with a Spoon 5.3fd, and even though it didn't make it any quicker, it does make it feel more torquey driving round town/low rpms/on hills etc. So better in that way, but im glad i didn't pay full price for it or for the fitting, i'd have been very, very disappointed lol.

What sort of gain can should I expect after a K100 remap with only a Catback exhaust system and an induction kit?

I'm tempted to buy a second hand exhaust manifold and RBC inlet manifold then getting the K100 remap but I'm scared if the car gets too loud, may be uncomfortable for everyday driving? :(

By the way, whilst I'm getting the valve clearances done, is there anything else recommend to get done at the same time?
Cheers

Even with a stock engine you will see about +30HP midrange gain with a K100. With a RBC and exhaust manifold I'd guess around 240-250HP at the flywheel.

As you'll be decat'ing the car, it will probably be louder, whether it's then to loud for you would be impossible to say :D is it loud now?

Whilst doing the clearances I'd get the chain inspected for any stretch and generally look at the condition of everything under the cover.

Brilliant, cheers for that. I'll ask them to have a look at the chain.
At the moment, car isn't loud enough to annoy me as I'm driving but I think it's pretty loud at night when i start it up.
It is definitely loud enough as so much as I can no longer hear my AEM V2 scream at VTEC crossover :(

I'd get all the bolt ons fitted and mapped together as it will work out cheaper. If you map it now then decide later to add an rbc/rrc inlet etc then you will have to pay to have your map tweaked. A true 3 inch exhaust will be helpful but these tend to be loud and drone a lot so they can become annoying on long journeys.

The order I did mine. Not suggesting it's the right way but just the way I felt was right for me.

1. Tyres
2. Alignment (FRSU using Eibach parts)
3. Suspension (Eibach pro springs)
4. Brake discs and pads (DBA 4000 discs)

That probably tipped me well over a grand to be fair. Followed by..

5. Cat back exhaust
6. Induction (Tegiwa M)
7. K100 (Mapped by Eurospec)

Next will be to de-cat with a race header and tweak the mapping at the same time

Quicker? What on earth for? The thing is naturally aspirated and already develops 220 PS from just 2.0 litres...Honda have spent a fortune setting the thing up.

Why not just drive it for a few months and get a proper understanding of what the thing is all about? It is a package and the package is what makes it great, not the 0-60 time!

There are a select number of mods that are wise and they are all to do with handling and stopping.

Geometry, tyres, bushes and a specialist service including ALL fluids is surely a priority?

Just got brake and clutch fluid to do then. Does this have power steering fluid too or is it electric?

Thanks guys some really really good advice!!!
In the past I've been changing my cars every 6-9 months because either something bugged me or there was something I didn't like about the car but with this DC5, I think I've finally found a car that I'd like to keep for the next 2-3 years.

I've literally just had a full service (almost), just power steering, brake and clutch fluid to do, and also had valve clearance done too.
Is there any point in tinkering with the handling as at the moment, the car is sat on Eibach Pro springs. (I'm not sure how much it's dropped by) but would I gain any benefit by switching to a set of coilovers? I've seen some Tein and also BC racing coilovers for around £5-600 new. Baring in mind I won't be racing the car on a track, just using it as my daily drive but the thought of lowering it even further sounds a good idea to the point where I wouldn't want to ruin the drive in doing so.
Somebody mentioned brakes above but I honestly feel the brakes are fine. Even at such high speeds, the car reacts well to an emergency braking scenario and driving it locally around home and town seems perfect.
My only little gripe with the car is the steering.
It almost feels like it under steers at times and that the steering feels heavy.
I had a 2.5L WRX before this and the steering was quiet light compared to my DC5.

Oh by the way, with that in mind... Sometimes when pushing it hard especially in VTEC I noticed that the steering wheel sort of judders and almost feels like cars going out of control?? I never experienced this on my EP3.
Would that be related to tracking or balancing?

Don't spend 1k on mods, have a nice holiday instead.

I don't know of many that have modified and ever been truely satisfied. Most just keep modding, then eventually sell and move on as that illusive "perfect setup" was never there. Marketing sells the illusion of BECAUSE RACECAR.

I want a k100 map, but with Vtec staying at oem position - essentially running as best as possible on 99 ron. However more and more these days I often think that I would love to go back to pure OEM.

I do like my 5.3FD with longer 6th. As a daily, it's the best mods ever. Much more low down torque and an extra 30/40 miles per tank extra for me. The mod has probably paid for itself by now.
