Hi guys, I started calling today for some possible quotes for my Teg looking to import within the next few months, my first try was with Sky as going from reputation they seem very good and competative however they couldn't quote me

The details I gave were;
Integra DC5, 2005 reg
Value up to £13,000
Fully comp
9000 annual mileage
1 years NCB
Standard security (but likely to upgrade at import)
Parked on street offroad
25 years old, female, license held for 3years
1 accident, fully claimed in my favour as no fault

What could possibly be the reason? I am assuming it's the value of the car but also worried the accident/claim may affect things even if I was not at fault. Also noticing many people have high ncb here...

Any help would be appreciated, feel incredibly disappointed now after looking forward to this for a year now and doubt i'll be able to even find a decent quote if Sky wouldn't quote me? Fair play to the advisor on the phone, always nice when you call them. I am going to attempt other companies listed here but my search hasn't gotten off to a very promising start!

Thanks

Ah :( Well I just called Admiral, my policy with them ends in January 2 weeks before the Teg will arrive in country (so i'll let that run, get temp insurance to sell the current car), and I will have 2 years ncb then, they quoted £1446 for fully comp, £550 excess

I first got my DC5 when I was 23 (with 2 years ncb), the only company that would insure me was Adrian Flux so give them a try...

Thank you :) Gave up for today going to do a big ring around tomorrow, Admiral seems promising so far though and i've used them for 2 years and trust them, i've searched on the forums and can't seem to find what exactly does this car come with as standard for security? if it doesn't have immob/tracker is it worth upgrading on import with one or both?

I'm 21 and with Admiral, paying around £1k. All the other quotes I got were near on double that

Oh my! how on earth have you managed that if you don't mind me asking? I hoped my age/gender might have swayed it back in my favour but Admiral did tell me that even though the accident was settled in my favour it will affect my quotes with them :(

No idea, my insurance has always been cheap in comparison to others my age. Aberdeen has one of the lowest risk post codes in the country which helps, and then I've got 4 years no claims (never made a claim). Parents as named drivers brought mine down massively.

Firstly, hi and welcome.

Secondly, the quote situation will more than likely be due to the security. An 05 plate will be a facelift (in most cases) and have a factory alarm/immob but it won't be recognised in the UK!

Get a Cat1 alarm/immob and you'll be fine, I'm pretty sure..
HTH and don't forget the pictures when it arrives :)

Thanks guys, and thanks especially Mark, the one thing that has impressed me with this forum is how nice and friendly everyone is so glad to be part of it :) I think i've decided regardless i'm going to get the alarm when it's imported, peace of mind and all that!

Will get a thread up when he finally arrives in feb ;)

Hi and welcome!

Sorry to hear you couldn't get a quote with Sky, they are a lovely bunch in the office!

Have you tried Keith Michaels?

In response to the family thing-I actually have both parents as named on my current policy as they do use my car on rare occasions (and my quote with Admiral included this), Sky didn't even ask that though..silly me should have mentioned it :( may possibly need to ring again nearer the time, as said before it's a shame as I always like ringing Sky, friendliest/most sincere bunch i've spoken to yet

You're welcome :)

Insurance time for me normally boils down to Sky or A-Plan, competing them against each other. I've tried many others over the years with the Teg after recommendations on here but nobody else seems to come close.
Received great service from both in fairness. Though I wasn't very happy with my renewal letter this year but that's another story..

Well i've had a bit of a second wind and tried some online quotes, Parents got two cars with Direct Line so got a quote for above specs of £914 for multicar which seems too good to be true but time will tell! Not so worried as I was this morning :) but appreciate all the advice from you all! Definately going to feel right at home here..

Online quotes sometimes can be deceiving especially on Imports.

Always always always pick up the phone to speak to an specialist advisor :)
