As above, TGM did mine in a day. It isnt cheap though, not when you start messing with synchros. The hub assembly with 1st to 2nd synchro is the other side of £700 for a genuine part withought installation, new secknd gear at £80, clutch added in to that as its apart, plus labour allow over the feared 4 figure sum
It could just be clutch like Dotty says, but like you I wanted to be sure so asked TGM to split the box and check. I had saved for the worst anyways, and he had the parts there, so I opted for the lot to be sorted out as he was in there. It was worn but not terrible, amplified by a dodgy clutch, but its fantastic now, just cost a small fortune at the time for something you cant see.
lol Worth every penny though.
Take it to a specialist and get them to drive it. Not ideal travelling just for a test drive I know, but may help.
