What oil are you using?

As per title, I'm curious to see what engine oils are being used by fellow DC5 owners.

I'm due a service and have been using Fuchs Titan Race Pro S although I'm not 100% sure if it is 5w 40 or 10w 40 I bought.

10w 40 is fine for summer months mate, titan pro S is usually 5w-40, the pro R is 15w-50 and is only suitable for track use.

Thanks your is slightly different, haha.

I think 5w40 us what most of use all year round.

I've always used Pro S in the past but just change to Nanodrive.

Hi

Millers Nanodrive 5w40. There's some interesting reviews regarding this oil.

Regards.

Haha you have a point but...I used the same before I added a turbo :xyes: TGM recommended 10W60 way back when i bought the car and I've used it ever since without a problem. I moved from Castrol Edge to Miller when I went turbo and this was on recommendation by TDi North.

I have spoken to Opie about oil choices and they say 10W60 is too thick for N/A but without ever having a problem and having specialists recommend it I just stuck with it.

All this hype about oil "smoothers" and being thinner to release power I just don't fully buy into. I understand the logic of less friction but for minimal gains and less protection. I don't see the need.

Either way I've never heard of a K20 blowing up because someone used the wrong oil so its all kinda personal preference really.

Thanks for the replies!

I have used Castrol 10w 60 before on the advise of Tom (TGM) and never had a problem, I think he said they use it in their race cars.

So 5w 40 sounds like the best option.

Hi.

According to the reviews turbo cars come out best with BHP and Torque up using CFS Nanodrive oil. Millers conducted the test and had the read outs to prove it. If I remember rightly the cars were an Astra VXR and the Focus RS. Unfortunately they didn't do a test with a normally aspirated engine.

My car performance appears to be better on Nanodrive. I noticed that when I changed for the first time. But I haven't any dyno read outs to prove it.

To be honest I think Ive been blessed with a car that was looked after by it's one owner in Japan and Ive been lucky enough to have been able to carry it on.

It still goes like stink and its ability to overtake rapidly is sublime.

Regards.

Didn't tegiwa do a dyno test with nanodrive? I'm fairly sure it was them anyway. They dynoed the car with normal and then nanodrive on the same day and I think it was an extra 5bhp.

Hi

Thanks for putting this on. Its the first time Ive seen the article. I actually feel a bit smug. It seems I might have squeezed a bit more poke out of my standard pride and joy. Have you ever seen the review by Millers. One of the vehicles doing the test squeezed an amazing amount of extra BHP

Regards. Granty.

Think I've seen that one too. I started using it in my dc5 and I'm using it in the fd2 now too. When I first used it in the dc5 It felt like it just pulled a bit better and was definitely smoother running. I tried gauging the engine braking aswell. It reduced the engine braking ability a small bit.

3bhp?! Sorry, but I'm not convinced or persuaded. I buy an oil for it's quality purposes to protect sufficiently and trust it's longevity.. I agree that oils will advance with modern technology, but as with the oil smoother, the "power increase" I smell BS and think it's all marketing. Tegiwa deal millers oils don't they?. Hmmm ;)

Edit: having said all that, I'd rather use the millers than an additive in x/y/z oil. I'm sure it's a good quality oil!. I just don't buy their claims.

Its all in your balls Mark. According to Millers that is. There is a bit of hype attached to this whole issue. But these businesses have their reputations at stake. I don't think they would want to risk criticism from the motoring magazines.

I also think that the manufactures have the ability to create an oil and a filter that would do hell of a lot more mileage then we are lead to believe. They know that the most of us do an oil and filter change at least twice a year. Thats hell of a lot of revenue coming in.

Personal thing but I'm sticking with Nanodrive until something else tops it for me. Its bleeding expensive though.

Regards.
