It was his second ever car. His first one was a 106xsi or something. I did offer friendly advice telling him to go easy with it but it clearly fell on deaf ears.
What a head dick.

Waste of a nice car as well, bet he was gutted and you as well.

Very quick cars, deceptively quick and a lot of power to handle.

Glad its not me in the same situation then lol Evos' 8 & 9 have been going through my mind for last two years but seeing the cost of garage bills etc when things go wrong put me right off.

Did nearly put my teg up for sale at one point late last year but i just couldn't get rid of it. :xhuh:

For me it's usually winter time I get thinking about getting one with the crap weather. Might sound silly but I have such a connection with the DC5 I don't think I can let it go. Perfect scenario DC5 for summer and Evo for winter and would be a better family car lol. I don't do many miles so that should help ease the service bills. Done 350 this year so far. But also really like the scooby S206 in white.

That is the only negative point with these cars, the MPG when pressing the loud pedal -

I can easily manage 13mpg, least i've done so far is 126 miles on a full tank hehe..!

I sold my dc5 for evo.

Yes bills are a lot more. Really bad on fuel. Some big bills but I still loved my evos

Had a 7 Jdm Gsr then sold that for a modified 8 gsr.

Both now gone and I have a lotus exige. I still miss the Evo and have been tempted to buy another after lotus.

6 Rs it would have to be. Not sure am not completely sold on the lotus.

Rascal69, any pics of the old evo and current exige

I know someone with an exige but the non FI one
Looks brilliant in photo to what I have seen. I borrowed a friends vx220 which is the closest I've been to a lotus, but for me there were many dislikes. Would be interesting to hear of your exige ownership

The Exige is a fantastic car, but really lost on our roads to be honest. They absolutely flourish on smooth roads and tracks though! Been in one round the Lotus track and Hethel, had a whale of a time!

I'll have it if you don't want it! lol

Love Exige's.

I dabbled with the idea of a 5 or 6 years ago. But even doing all the work myself, the maintenance cost put it out of my reach.

A ex work mate was a tech for Mitsubishi, this is older models, i have no idea what the 8 etc are like. But he said you would be lucky to get 10k out of front discs and pads, and not like your going to put cheap ones (not they exist?) on.
AYC (i think is Active Yaw Control) needs fluid changing a lot, just the fluid is a small fortune. It can be changed yourself, but sometimes needed bleeding on the Diag machine.

They are absolute weapons, and look great. But for a daily, too much to run for me. They are much better than Imprezzas, not as chavvy or common. That said, the Imprezzas are still weapons, which are much cheaper to maintain. But thats also the reason they are a lot more common.

I've owned 3 Evo's.
2x 8MR 320's
1x X300SST.

The X averaged 20mpg and was hit with lots of faults, I didn't like it and sold it.

The 8's were brilliant. 22mpg, £120 6 month service, £240 12 month service and £400 for the major service.
Tax was same as Teg, wasn't really that expensive to run. Never had any problems with either of them.

Both were standard, I find the problems start when you start playing. The other problem is finding a good one, there's lots of dogs which will cost you to fix.

Choose carefully and well, look after it and it'll never do you wrong.

I have just bought an evo 9 and currently try to sell the teg

I have owned it three weeks now and have spent over 2k on it

Bought it with a slipping clutch as its been modded to 420 hp so that cost me £775 in parts

Done all the fluids at the same time, engine, gearbox and both diffs and spark plugs which cost me around £200

Checked the front brakes whilst it was on the ramp and the discs and pads where pretty much worn out, decent 2 piece discs where £650 pads where £200 braided lines and new fluid came to about £200

Also need to refurbish the ayc pump of which the going rate seems to be about £500 for a drive in drive out service

Luckily i can do all the work myself otherwise i would have been looking for another £1000+ in labour

So yeah they are very expensive to run but its an absolute machine to drive, my integra was 270hp but is nothing compared to the evo, the way it puts its power down is insane.

Fuel wise its not much worst then the teg, as long as you run it on the fuel its mapped to i get 22-25 mpg if i run it on 95 ron its more like 16-17, tax is £500 though :(

I did love the teg but dont think ill be going back to one, a turboed car suits my driving style alot more

I've never had an Evo (nephew has an Evo 6) but I do have this along with my DC5, a Scooby Impreza WRX which is about 280bhp. Before this I had a Lotus Elise S1 which I used to track and is still in the family. The Scooby is lovely and it's great having the power and the 4WD but it doesn't feel as engaging or as alive as the DC5 or Elise. It's less focused and a lot more refined. It's also very stable so doesn't fight you and I got bored of it very quickly. I just missed that raw race car feel that the DC5 and Elise gives you. My wife on the other hand loves it because it's fast, stable, practical, reliable and she can be lazy and just let the turbo do the work rather than using the gears. 4WD is great but you do lose a certain amount of thrill that you get with FWD and RWD. Saying that, you do get this amazing grip which is also quite addictive. Turbo power is also amazing and so adictive but there is something to be said for a nice smooth linear NA engine.

For me, I can see the benefits of a 4WD Turbo car, in some ways its the best of both worlds. Power and grip but I do like that raw rough noisy race car feel still.

As we're talking Lotus also, this is my Elise.

No worries. Just tell your mate that if he removes the third cat to just a straight through, then he won't need a remap but if he removes the up pipe to turbo cat or the down pipe from turbo cat then he must get a remap or else engine will go bang. Also worth changing to Walbro 255 fuel pump. Only worth changing to a good panel filter if staying under 300bhp.

I sold my DC5 a couple of years ago but I do remember it fondly and will have another, there is no better all round car for daily use if need be followed by track days at the weekends IMO.

I bought this a month or so ago as I'd always wanted one;

Comfort and quality it's on par with the DC5 (probably comfier tbh but lower bolstered seats), but yeah, 23mpg average so far and my commute is quite kind on fuel (70mpg in my old ibiza daily!). It is a weekend car so it's not too much of an issue, but like the bike the problem it brings is tank range, 200 per tank seems to be about the norm, though you can stretch it to 250ish if you're kind. Performance is brilliant, this one has around 320bhp and will be a bit more soon with a decat and a remap. Take your time and buy one with good history thats been looked after. This one has more miles than I'd like really but it's been cared for very well.

Service wise I don't think they're as bad as people make out. They're simple to work on so anywhere can do the standard fluid changes, and getting the AYC serviced is under £100 from an evo specialist. They don't need replacing or rebuilding unless they go wrong, and they don't generally go wrong if they're serviced properly at least every 2 years.

Looking forward to seeing what mine's like on track, as you don't really get passed by an evo if you're in a well set up Honda so it will be a challenge!

done it twice, and would do it again if the opportunity came about!! Have a company car and recently bought a weekend/track toy - EP3. The cost of buying and modding to 250bhp was cheaper than buying either a DC5 or an Evo. Would have loved one of either but couldn't justify the cost for a weekend 'toy'
