Yeah cheers man. Like I said in the video it doesn't seem too bad but it is a lot worse and much more noticeable in person. Honestly it's taken the fun out of driving the car totally now and I don't know if it's just placebo but it definitely feels sluggish and draggy in every gear.
Went out with my mates DC5 which is also stock apart from Mugen intake and Catback and I did not stand a chance lol. It was like I was up against a Veyron or something lol

Jeuss that is alot worse them when my buddy's ELD went. Similar with the fact it made all the noises of a good VTEC but was sluggish. Interesting to see what it is

Hi chaps another quick update: just had removed injector rail and cleaned all injectors thoroughly, there was a lot of gunk built up around them and on the rail.
Also removed and cleaned the throttle body and cleaned the throttle position sensor I think (the big sensor in the middle) but couldn't remove the other two sensors on either end as the bolts were seized which actually snapped the screwdriver!
This has somewhat improved the 6k rpm VTEC issue but it's still there so not sure what the fault is. It's improved it in that VTEC does kick in and seems smooth in 1st and 2nd but definitely sticks in 3rd upwards.
Well ive still got the VTEC issue but car feels a little better now after cleaning off all that gunk.
TDI on Wednesday, really hope they find the fault so I can get it sorted and enjoy the car again.

Good update mate and thanks for the info.

My problem was nowhere near as bad as yours but at least you have VTEC. I have an EML and no VTEC haha.

It's a good thread this as I'm sure if anyone else has the same issue this will be good to read through.

My vtc solenoid should be here Tuesday or Wednesday and I'll fit straight away and update.

Yeah it's in interesting issue which I'm surprised hasn't really been covered on this forum before, well similar issues all with different cures.
I've already swapped my VTEC solenoid and made bugger all difference so for me, it had nothing to to do with the solenoid.

Vtec is really just an on/off system I think if it were the VTEC solenoid it just wouldn't engage.

Mine did fail on VTC so we'll see

make sure your oil levels are on the max when the car is warm,
i have never heard of an ELD failing in one of these generally they are very reliable electrically and mechanically.

It has been covered and it's been covered in this thread. It's basic mechanics, there is nothing special about the K20 or the problem you're experiencing. It's just simple mechanics and a case of having to check everything.

I'm sorry but if it was that simple I would sorted the problem by now and the guys at tdi would of told me the issue when I first took it there so obviously this 'simple mechanics' thing you keep saying It's abit more involved then that. I'm not been an arse or anything but like i said if it simply it would of been fixed by now and if all 3 of us have the same issue you would thought one of us will have found the problem

We understand that things need to be checked Chris, we're all going through a frustrating process.

We all understand that the VTEC system is pretty basic. If it was that easy, we'd all be VTEC'ing happily, but we're not. My mate who is a specialist in these cars has helped me run diagnostics with live data logging, and mine only failed on the VTC.

We're all here discussing issues and problems we're having. If the cars were telling what's wrong with a code it'd be all dandy but they're not.

You telling us 'It's basic' isn't really helping but annoying other people more.

Sam I think you should pay for Chris to come and fix your car doesn't sound like your having too much luck! Hope you get sorted soon :)

I'm also a bit surprised at Chris' reply, I'm pretty sure he's given me some sound advice in the past (unless that's a different Chris) but I can understand because what seems very complicated to us, may be basic knowledge to him. But that's what this Forum is all about isn't it?

i wish it was something obvious or basic lol I just started taking the power steering pump off and tensioner then the heavens came down so had to quickly build it back up before I got wet through! One of the tensioner bolts look abit awkward to get to aswel engine mounting looks in the way sort of, I'll have to have another look tomorrow

What I mean is, crasherkid for example has done some basic things which has changed the symptoms quite a bit.

EML will only light up with a complete failure of a part or cam chain etc, The fact it's not lighting up suggests it's something that's clogged up, needs cleaning out etc.

It sounds to me that unless a fault code shows up on a diagnostic scanner that some garages seem unable to chase faults?

Unfortunately that is the case. I took it to Honda and because their machines couldn't pick up any faults, I was handed my keys back after 5 mins and I was quiet disappointed with that service.
Problem is, the cure could be one of soo many things and to keep in buying parts or sensors which I think my be the culprit, could easily end up costing over a grand and even then the problem may still exist.

Which is why I like using Performance Autoworks and TGM, because they usually have these sort of parts laying around. Mine was in recently and had to have a gearbox speed sensor fitted, they had a second hand one to try which is the one I bought in the end.

Its easy to say its 'simple mechanics' when every simple problem you have you take it to a mechanic 🤷🏻‍♂️
