The mighty E46 M3, shortlisted as one of my next car such a beautiful looking thing with 338bhp out of a 3.2 straight six can't beat it!

P.S Got to be a manual FTW!

E46 was considered before the Teg, running costs put me right off. After-all, it's an M3 an therefore has M tax associated to it.

Rear floor/subframe often cracks. If not caught early expect to shell out ££££'s.
I looked at specialists for servicing costs. Small service £300+, big service £600+. Sure a normal garage would be cheaper, not exactly the car to try and save pennies on though.
SMG, NOPE!
Then there is just wear n tear stuff.

Think I need to earn more before I commit to such a car ha ha. Lovely cars though!

These guys look to keep good stock: http://www.sjspecialistcars.co.uk/index.html

I look at STi's and S15s a fair bit, but I'm fairly confident I'll get bored of the STi for being to safe, and the s15 will be too scary to drive properly! For now, the DC5 is staying, I've had it 8 months, which is something of a record for me of late, but it puts a massive grin on my face everytime I drive it. Even more so now my daily is a £300 EJ9 Civic!

I also considered trading her in for a k20 DC2.. but I've reconsidered that after talking to a few people who have owned dc2s b18/k20s. I'm sure in a year or twos time the dc5 will be a proper track slag but for now it does a bit of everything, (track day in Feb!) and I love it <3

good friend has a nice facelift e46 m3. they are very nice to drive, comfy, very fast to the point you dont realise how quick they are going.

but, its just not as fun as the teg period.... quicker yes, comfier yes, but not more fun or more importantly rare! (and extra running costs etc)

thrashing the teg on b roads at 9k, can not be beaten by the e46 at least.

my s2000 had a different feel to the teg, still amazing fun hooning at 9k with the roof down in the summer, and the rear wheel drive, but it needs some good suspension and geo set up to get the best out of it.. actually same for the teg really as both of mine had a great setup so ive not driven OEM.

i would buy another s2k in a heartbeat, especially as they are appreciating these days!

I have the same problem... It happens to me when i have lots of free time or when not driving the 5 for some time...Hop in the 5 and drive it and everything comes back to normal. Have it for 5 years now if it matters.

Agreed! 👍🏻
As with many cars the refinement takes away from the driving experience, though makes it a nicer place to be.

Mine is a facelift and manual - the teg has a nicer gearshift.

Haha glad I got that spot on!

FYI you can fit the gear knob from the later model m5 which is more weighty and improves the shift a bit. Google it. But still not as sweet as the tegs shift.

Op if you have oem shifter get th the tegiwa short shifter. Tightened the shift up so much and removes any play while being more precise. And obviously a a weighted knob if you don't have one. That will help transform It and you'll not want to get rid haha

Thanks, already have it fitted! Was first mod ;)
I also had the Tegiwa SS and a weighted gearknob in my teg and loved it :)

Had the DC5 about 14 months and still feels like my 'new' car, only done a few minor mods thus far, would love to get it mapped.
As I've said before it's very rare to drive anywhere and see another car I would consider changing to.
I'm with Jimmer - NSX in the distant future... but only if I can keep the 5 too!

R33 gtr (bit old/heavy/complex, shit interior)

Or

Evo viii mr (not keen on the rear window/roofline angles...clearly for rear headroom but.not very sleek looking, thirsty)

Or

Fd2 (too similar to dc2 ie fwd)

Or ???

Which one to get?

Haven't got a fucking clue.....getting frustrated and may just forget the bastard idea and buy something dull like the majority.

Told myself I want something 4wd for a change, still jdm, faster and more modern than the jdm dc2.....but maybe I should just get over it.

Nice reading these replies that there's at least some of you that consider selling from time to time.

There's so many cars out there for your money nowa days I think it'll always be a case of wondering what it'd be like to drive something else. In some alternate reality I'd have a Supra, hands down. Only ever seen two in the flesh and they've got some serious road presence. And the sound of a single turbo setup....... :xnworthy:

https://youtu.be/WIkB6Zl1wc8?t=1m18s

I'm considering booking a test drive of this Focus RS just to see what it's all about, and hopefully, it'll bore me and stop me thinking about swapping. I've still got loads I'd like to do to the teg but more power is certainly something I'd really like. Going boost seems the best option, but after driving a turbo'd teg, it wasn't my cup of tea and in years to come I think boost will be considered 'ruining a classic'. Really didn't retain any of the characteristics of the teg and was obnoxiously loud even inside the cabin.

On a note of the FD2: Used to love the look of that car but to be honest, it's just more of the same. I highly doubt I'd get into it and have it feel like a completely different car to the teg.

for 7/8k its hard to find a better all rounder, you almost have to double that figure to get something considered an upgrade. In that bracket id put an evo x, 370z, s3, cayman, and even they wouldn't be everyones cuppa!

I was very fond of the dc2, but I definitely wouldn't have another........could be blew away by a 5 door diesel on a due carriageway which is annoying. Light car and alive when on it but the rest of the time it was like any other hatchback.....an old hatchback. It became tiresome after multiple long drives....the shine wore off.....ok so perhaps its a bit like saying a inflatable dingy makes a shit surfboard but.............the fact remains.

Like an ex girlfriend, we had some good times but by the end I grew to hate it.

So what nezt? Im just spinning my wheels........incidentally, if somebody comes along with an immaculate supercharged dc5 thats black, who knows, I may be interested. Low miles and not stupidly loud.

This cash is burning a hole in my pocket.

Find my next car somebody, I cant be arsed

Nice to know I wasn't the only one to feel this way. I had been debating selling mine several times.
I have recently sold mine in the last month and was in two minds whether or not to do it. I had thought about it several times before I placed the advert.
Prior to my late dc5 I have had; golf r32 (kept 6 months), ek9 (also kept 6 months), evo 9 (kept 2 weeks - big fault long story), and prior to that a dc5 which I had had for 12 months but wasnt ready to sell it when I parted with it - woman troubles. Hence why I bought another which was at 19 months of ownership when I sold it.
Clearly it's the dc5s that have kept me most interested out of the cars I have had in the last 5 years, and I sold this as I am trying to sell my house and plans with the car have changed, amongst other things.
It's only been a month and I am already bored and looking at cars again. I know I won't be buying another Dc5 any time soon but I keep coming back to this forum, even though I haven't met many people on here, I do feel this has the best community out of all the forums I have been on.

I sold mine over a year ago now and wish I'd have been able to keep it - I genuinely think if I could have afforded to have kept it I would still have it now.

I needed the money at the time to fund my house deposit so I guess a worth while sacrifice.

Currently driving an E46 Clubsport at the moment which I've had for the last year and a bit, I like it but its not a patch on the DC5.

I briefly thought about it a couple years ago (now owned the teg for 7 years!) then I bought a BMW E36 325i to mix things up a bit.

I still have the dc5, and the e36 is my drift car! At 192hp it feels almost as fast, and if I swap out the diff for a higher ratio I'm sure it will almost be on par!
Being able to alternate between cars helps to keep things exciting, for me at least. Saying that, even as my main car I still wouldn't sell up!
