only way to do it is look at the logbook or stick the index number in the dvla vehcile enquiry.... or ask the seller :D
Cheers mate

this is one of the things wondering whether to buy another DC2 or a DC5 - my gf likes both but prefers the DC5 looks and fact that its more comfortable etc, but at the end of the day I am trying to work out pound for poud to own, run and keep which is the best compromise and deal all round (as we will have her polo 1.2 as a run about still), was going to buy a DC2 trakc only car but as I have had a DC2 already I thought i'd consider a DC5 after driving BAzza's many times and loving it also, more comfortable, nice having 6 gears etc etc etc.
if you want a fresh import i know that Andy at 200BHP cars always avertises his at the lower tax band (not £185 a year but the lower of the other two) however if you only want to pay £185 (like mine :p ) a year you will have to buy one that is already in this country.

HTH :D

Hi carl, there are 3 possible Tax bands the DC5 falls in to - regardless of Age.

I think its more appropriate now to state what the road tax will cost to RENEW nexy year onwards 2009 >

A. PLG - £200

B. 223 g/kg Model Report = £300

C 234 g/kg Model Report = £415

Which Band each indivdual Car is regsitered in was detemined by the importer.

Cars imported to the UK from 2001-2004 are more likely to be PLG. This braket is actually reserved for cars manufactured before 2001 (No Dc5's!) but a few years ago (before the big kick off about Emmisions and Green taxes) the DVLA often registered all imports as PLG as it was a force of habit. If you have one of these cars you are lucky to be paying up to £215 a year less in road tax compared to other Dc5 owners.

Just a note, we were still getting away with registering all of our Dc5 imports on PLG tax band until around late 2007 - after that the DVLA closed the loop hole.

After PLG, it depends which of the 2 Model reports were used to SVA test the Dc5 by the individual importer.

Again, back before the Super Motorist taxes - it wouldnt have really mattered to importers which report they used - as the varying emmisions levels of 223 vs 234 g/kg of carbon emmisions didnt have an impact on the Vehicle excise duty rate. However it does now...

If your Dc5 was registered on the Latter of the two model report then unfortunatly i dont think there is anything you can do about it.

Amazingly there are still some clueless importers out there still using the model report which puts the Dc5 in to the highest tax band. Costing then a further £100 or so for 6 months tax at the time of registering and the owner a Road tax bill of £415 from New year.

As mentioned, if your buying a pre-registered Dc5 check on the database with the DVLa to find out whic of the 3 potential categories it falls in to.

Hope this helps clarify matters for potential buyers...

It means your tax disc is up for renewal in oct 2008. In that day you shall pay £210 for the year. The following year it shall be £300 and in 2010 it shall be £310. Same as me and anyone else with the 223 registered car.

All these posts are all well and good, but i have a 2004 223g/km model, and i've just got my renewal in for the end of feb 2009, and its 210 quid. From what everyone said it should be 300.

Not sure this is up to date Ollie, I think it's now...

1) Registered as PLG, no emission levels recorded on Registration Certificate = cheapest TAX currently £185 (12 months) rising to £190 in March 2009.

2) Registered using later model report stating CO2 emissions of 223g/km = currently Band F £210 (12 months), changing to Band K and rising on the 13th March 2009 to £215, then to £245 in March 2010.

3) Registered using early model report stating CO2 emissions of 234g/km = currently Band G £400 (12 months), changing to Band L and rising on the 13th March 2009 to £415, then to £425 in March 2010.

I got my car changed from the high rate which is;

Registered using early model report stating CO2 emissions of 234g/km = currently Band G £400 (12 months), changing to Band L and rising on the 13th March 2009 to £415, then to £425 in March 2010.

To the low rate;
2) Registered using later model report stating CO2 emissions of 223g/km = currently Band F £210 (12 months), changing to Band K and rising on the 13th March 2009 to £215, then to £245 in March 2010.

With ten or so letters to Honda UK and the DVLA took me 18 months to get it changed as I was not giving up with the help from Neil on here thanks mate =D>

Got a refund wait for it £350 :D

Mines now in band K happy days :D

Nice work! Any chance you can give us some information on how you managed it? either on here or PM. Is it necessary that your car is a facelift to use the later model report?

I'm in the high band and even if it takes 1-2 years i'd at least like to have a go at it, plus if you've already managed it we might be able to cite your case in the contact.
